Summary: Civilization III Crashes When Starting New Game Product: Wine Version: 1.0-rc1 Platform: All OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: critical Priority: P2 Component: opengl AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: sourtooth@gmail.com
Created an attachment (id=13104) --> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=13104) 0.9.61 Crash Log
When Starting New Game: Gets Past Selecting Civilization, Loading, Displays Initial View Then Crashes As Soon As 1st Dialog Box Is Closed. Also Affects: Quickplay, Load Game & Load Scenario. This Makes The Game Useless.
Running Mandriva 2008.1, Tested Both With 0.9.61 & 1.0-rc1
0.9.61 Doesn't Call wine_glflush() ( It Crashes In winex11 ) 1.0-rc1 Does Call wine_glflush()
Attaching Logs From 0.9.61 & 1.0-rc1 I Believe The Context Isn't Being Set. This Would Be Why Dan Kegel Can Run It. He Has NVidia I Have Intel. The Drivers Must Have Different Policies On How To Handle It. Whatever Way It Is, Wine Must Set The Context Properly, This Means Other OpenGL Games Must Be Affected As Well.

Sorry, Wrong Person. It's Roger Koot Not Dan Kegel. ( Reading Too Much AppDB... )

--- Comment #4 from Mikko C. mikko.cal@gmail.com 2008-09-01 02:17:02 --- I'm also having a crash when starting a new game. My problem tho, is that X crashes too so I can't get a log from wine.

If X is crashing, you're either running as root or your drivers are to blame. If you redirect to a file you should still catch most of the log though.
Is this still an issue in current (1.1.16 or newer) wine?

--- Comment #6 from Ben Cook2 sourtooth@gmail.com 2009-03-11 00:11:04 --- Currently at the moment, wine-1.1.16 as installed from the openSUSE Build Service repository, refuses to even consider starting Civilization III.
On first run of winecfg to configure Audio, and enable virtual desktop of 1024x768, I recieved the following:
wine: created the configuration directory '/home/trunk/.wine' err:process:__wine_kernel_init boot event wait timed out Could not load Mozilla. HTML rendering will be disabled. wine: configuration in '/home/trunk/.wine' has been updated.
Setup proceeded fine, but stacks of these messages were printed out
err:ole:marshal_object object doesn't expose interface {be6115a1-7de5-48dc-ad2a-25060e00fce2}, failing with error 0x80004002 err:ole:ClientIdentity_QueryMultipleInterfaces IRemUnknown_RemQueryInterface failed with error 0x80004002 err:menubuilder:InvokeShellLinker failed to build the menu
Then finally Civilization III refuses to load at all: wine: Unhandled page fault on read access to 0x0000000c at address 0x571589 (thread 0019), starting debugger...
I updated it to version 129f from the website and installed a patch to run it, since my disc for it is too damaged to install from ( I copied the files off long ago )
