My GTA 4 freezes or sometimes crashes when i watch a ingame video (like when you get your next mission) or on ingame scripted videos/events (like right before you go and kill this guy with a sniper, mission from Francis "Lure") (without the black sripes so it does not look like a video but i guess it could be the same background stuff rolling...).
The Mission Lure is a great example it freezes like 9 out of 10 tries by me. Then only one i got it to work was when it was night. Do not know if this has something to do with it. Also a lot of freezes when i would go to Francis for new missions.
Crashes (We are sorry for the inconvenience dialog....) are very rare only had two since i play with is 1 moth or so....
Tested wine Version: 1.3.35,1.3.36
In Console i get:

Attached is a savegame so you can easy test it by yourself, just drive down to the "F" on the map. I bet it will freeze right in the video and if you skip this by pressing left mouse button in will freeze later on the roof....

--- Comment #1 from Manuel Soukup linuxuser-sky@gmx.de 2012-01-07 12:52:49 CST --- I was trying to produce a proper log but the game slows down to much on my machine to make that happen also it did accumulate 4.3 gig of text only in the first 30 sec of play so i would guess to get to the mission and the freeze it would be like 150 gig or so.
I tied o use:
WINEDEBUG=+d3d WINEARCH=win32 WINEPREFIX=/mnt/data/games/wine/gta4 wine LaunchGTAIV.exe -norestrictions -nomemrestrict 2> ERROR.txt
Is there a way:
1. not to slow down the game so much.
2. To activate logging from inside the game so the data amount would be reduced ?

Used this command to gather both logs.
WINEARCH=win32 WINEPREFIX=/mnt/data/games/wine/gta4 wine LaunchGTAIV.exe -norestrictions -nomemrestrict 2> error_freeze_in_scripted_video.log
The with the scripted video is more useful i think...
Crash happend both time in the francis mission lure. one time in the video mode seqeunce at the beginning of the mission and one time on the rooftop seq.

Trying to get some useful backtrace, I've tried launching GTAIV via GTAIV.exe instead of normal LaunchGTAIV.exe, with winedbg, and here's the winedbg output: http://pastebin.com/hJNWq4Mn This backtrace seems to point to some sound code, though while running the game via LaunchGTAIV.exe without winedbg, here's what I get: http://pastebin.com/Zy5JYvEi , i.e. shader code fails Not sure if and how these crashes are related, but both appear after TV displays its first frame and first chunk of sound is heard.
