Summary: Fatal Error in Warcraft III on new wine versions Product: Wine Version: unspecified Platform: PC OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: major Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: clemensb@gmx.net
Created an attachment (id=10154) --> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=10154) Terminal output
When i want to start Wacraft III or Frozen Throne I get this Fatal Error:
"This application has encountered a critical error:
FATAL ERROR!
Program: C:\Programme\WarcraftIII\war3.exe Exception: 0xC0000005 (ACCESS_VIOLATION) at 0073:7E7E1FD6F5
The instruction at '0x7E1FD6F5' referenced memory at '0x00000010'. The memory could not be 'read'."
It must be a Problem with wine because it's working good till version 0.9.48. It's not working with wine versions 0.9.49 - .52.
I have an Intel X31000 (GMA965) integrated graphic card and Ubuntu 7.10 32-Bit installed (but I get the same error also with Arch Linux).
I've attached what the terminal says.
Also Steam crashes when I want to install a game (the steam GUI works fine) - but I don't tested if steam works with 0.9.48, but maybe it's the same problem.

--- Comment #1 from Jesse Allen the3dfxdude@gmail.com 2008-01-10 12:50:42 --- One bug per report please! I almost marked it invalid because of that.
Also please do regression testing. And specify whether you are using opengl or d3d game mode.

--- Comment #2 from clemens clemensb@gmx.net 2008-01-10 15:16:55 --- I don't wanted to post two bugs, I only thought the information could be helpfull, don't mind about it if it's useless.
In my attachment you can see it's opengl, but if I remembered right it doesn't make a difference.
I don't know how to do "regression testing"?

--- Comment #5 from clemens clemensb@gmx.net 2008-02-15 10:13:47 --- Hi,
sorry for answering so late, my laptop had to be repaired so I could not do the regression testing.
But now I've done it, but the output looks a little bit small, doesn't it?:

And I note that the terminal always printed this string many times with not working versions:

--- Comment #8 from Rico kgbricola@web.de 2008-02-15 11:59:14 --- This looks like bug 10674. Is this a dupe?
@clemens Could you try a game which is listed here bug 10674?
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=11120
--- Comment #9 from clemens clemensb@gmx.net 2008-02-16 06:27:34 --- I tried The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind, but this game won't start anyway, with 0.9.45 too. :(
I'll see if I have another game listened there, but if it's only because of one patch shouldn't it be easy to fix?
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=11120
--- Comment #10 from clemens clemensb@gmx.net 2008-02-16 09:21:48 --- Now I've tried Star Wars: Knights of the old republic II.
It starts with an old version (0.9.45), but if i want to load a real game (not the game menu), the X server crashes. So I tried the problematical version .49, it does not even reaches the game menu, the desktop only turns into big darkness (but X doesn't crashed).
So there's a different between the old versions and .49 not only for Warcraft III, but I can't say if it's the same bug as 10674 cause the errors are different.
@Rico: The demo has the same problem too.

--- Comment #12 from Angus Lees gus@inodes.org 2008-02-26 13:41:17 --- Fwiw, I get this crash too and just bisected it down to the same commit (how I found this bug). git HEAD (from about 2 days ago) still exhibits this immediate crash with Warcraft III.
I also have an intel graphics card - I suspect this is triggering GL extension codepaths that others (nvidia, etc) aren't seeing.

when i downgrade wine to 0.9.48, warcraft 3 runs again.

To repeat comment 8, if you're on an Intel card, you probably ran into bug 10674.

--- Comment #15 from Stefan Dösinger stefandoesinger@gmx.at 2008-03-01 04:37:35 --- There's a bug in the intel driver where the driver crashes if it finds an invalid shader, rather than just reporting an error. According to the other bug report this has been fixed in the upstream driver.
Also the test shader contained two invalid things, one which it wants to test(the offset), and another accidental one(using an immediate value as source for ARL. I fixed the 2nd one, but the first one is intentional and has to be handled more gracefully by the driver.
