Summary: Wine crashes KDE4.2 (Plasma) when running HOMAM2 Product: Wine Version: 1.1.22 Platform: PC OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: wylda@volny.cz
Hi,
when i tested Heroes of Might and Magic 2 Gold (HOMAM2), immediately after intro Windows message box pops-up with "Error in Module C:\Homm2\Base\soundmgr.cpp", line 66. Exit program? If i answer No, i can continue with game playing, but nearly each turn this pops-up again.
Whenever this message pops-up, console says:
err:mcicda:MCICDA_CalcTime Out of range value 0 [150,322701]
If i exit the game or say Yes to the pop-up, KDE4.2 taskbar is lost and background wallpaper is replaced by white color.
Wine tested: * wine_1.1.13~winehq1-1_i386.deb * wine_1.1.14~winehq1-1_i386.deb * wine_1.1.15~winehq1-1_i386.deb * wine_1.1.17~winehq1-1_i386.deb * wine_1.1.19~winehq1-1_i386.deb * wine_1.1.21~winehq1-1_i386.deb * wine_1.1.22~winehq1-1_i386.deb
All version behave the same.
There is a workaround, which keeps KDE's Plasma alive:
$ wine Heroes2w.exe /r0
This will change following registry key from 1 to 0:
"Music Volume"=dword:00000000
When registry is changed you no longer need to start with "/r0" parametr. Run heroes2w.exe directly and KDE's taskbar lives forever (have no problem with KDE4.2)
Have this something to do with CD Type: CD-XA, 1st Track Data followed by 42 audio tracks??

Wine can not cause KDE to crash. Report this to your distro.
Interesting :) Anyway, i keep it opened because of
err:mcicda:MCICDA_CalcTime Out of range value 0 [150,322701]
Also i'm going to change bug subject to leave out KDE.

I don't want to bother you with reading the report again, but when a MS message box pops-up with error message which has a direct connection with wine's console error message -- is that appropriate for bug report or not??

--- Comment #8 from Vitaliy Margolen vitaliy@kievinfo.com 2009-06-02 22:01:42 --- Does it work under any other window manager then KDE4? How about in totally separate X session without any WM? If you have the same problem there as well, then it's a real bug.
