Bug ID: 42142 Summary: DVDFab 10.0.1.7 launch (installed app) fails with raise_exception Unhandled exception code c0000005 Product: Wine Version: 2.0-rc3 Hardware: x86 OS: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown Assignee: wine-bugs@winehq.org Reporter: bob.mt.wya@gmail.com Distribution: ---
Created attachment 56709 --> https://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=56709 wine_console_log_dvdfab_10.0.1.7_launch WINEDEBUG=+tid,+timestamp,+all
Wine support for DVDFab 10.x.x.x is a major regression over Wine support for DVDFab 9.x.x.x
* Wine set to Windows Vista (Windows XP unsupported). * clean 32-bit Wineprefix tested.
Launching:
wine DVDFab.exe
fixme:winediag:start_process Wine Staging 2.0-rc3 is a testing version containing experimental patches. fixme:winediag:start_process Please mention your exact version when filing bug reports on winehq.org. err:seh:raise_exception Unhandled exception code c0000005 flags 0 addr (nil)
Installing the application has a similar exception - but this appears at the end of the install process. Installation _appears_ (my emphasis) to complete successfully...
wine DVDFab10017.exe

--- Comment #2 from Louis Lenders xerox_xerox2000@yahoo.co.uk --- Hi
It starts just fine here.
From your log:
9087.904:0008:0009:Call KERNEL32.GetVersionExA(00013484) ret=0fc08590 9087.904:0008:0009:warn:ver:GetVersionExA wrong OSVERSIONINFO size from app (got: 0) 9087.905:0008:0009:Ret KERNEL32.GetVersionExA() retval=00000000 ret=0fc08590 9087.905:0008:0009:warn:seh:setup_exception_record exception outside of stack limits in thread 0009 eip 0033fcd9 esp 00000000 stack 0x242000-0x340000
I don`t know why that happens at your side. You said you set version to Vista? Could you try reinstall in clean wineprefix (maybe using another version like windows 7). As said, it installs and starts up fine here, so cannot confirm

--- Comment #3 from Robert Walker bob.mt.wya@gmail.com --- @Louis,
Stranger and stranger... The installer and main executable work fine in my Ubuntu Mate VM - using the wine-devel 2.0-rc3 package.
But back on Gentoo - with either my 2.0-rc3 ebuild (with Staging disabled) or the stock Gentoo wine 1.9.23 ebuild - I get the:
err:seh:raise_exception Unhandled exception code c0000005 flags 0 addr (nil)
error - as before (clean 32-bit Wineprefix set to Windows 7).
Very weird (I use very stock build flags)... I've even tried using my LTS (4.4.x) kernel - but that's not made any difference.
So anyway I'll try to troubleshoot what's going wrong on the Gentoo install... Maybe I can entice someone else to test the DVDFab 10 installer - in #gentoo-wine :-)

--- Comment #5 from Robert Walker bob.mt.wya@gmail.com --- There's actually a bug in DVDFab... The ~16 call (in execution time) to the GetVersionEx() WIN API function allocates a zero-sized OSVERSIONINFO buffer. Wine correctly returns an error (and the correct error value).
I guess DVDFab tries to do something with the pointer to this zero-byte OSVERSIONINFO structure... Hence the segmentation fault I reported...
Sometimes this fails under Wine - sometimes not. Even just slowing down execution, e.g. by adding in WINEDEBUG tracing, can crash the application under Ubuntu as well.
Anyway I've submitted a support ticket on the dvdfab.cn website about this matter - with debug traces I obtained...
I guess a "NOT OUR BUG" is in order??!!

--- Comment #6 from Robert Walker bob.mt.wya@gmail.com --- (In reply to Bruno Jesus from comment #4)
I also tested program version 10.0.1.7 and it works fine in my Wine 2.0-rc3.
I've been re-testing. To summarise: * Arch + Plasma 5 + Nvidia blob (wine 2.1) - similar instant crash * Gentoo + Plasma 5 + Nvidia blob (wine 2.2) - instant crash * Solus + Budgie + Nouveau (wine 2.0) - runs OK * Ubuntu + Mate + Nouveau (wine 2.1) - runs OK That's all on my laptop (so same hardware Nvidia Geforce 970M).
So possibly there is a problem with running a Qt5-based Desktop and this Qt5-based application? I know Wine strips out all the QT env variables automatically...
Can anyone reproduce the issue with a Plasma 5 Desktop Environment (+Nvidia blob)?
