The game Pariah IS grabbing the mouse. Just try the demo:

I've tested it and confirmed on Windows XP Professional. Just go to Video Options->Advanced->Windowed mode. When in menu, the mouse is not grabbed. When the game loads, the mouse IS grabbed and user cannot move it outside of the game's screen (needs to alt-tab). On WINE, mouse just goes out of the game's window (as on windows, but in the game's menu). Pariah is touching the mouse pointer and it is grabbing it. At some point, WINE should grab the mouse.
So, the approach WINE developers took is ok, but avoiding mouse grabbing is too restrictive. I'll try to discover what function is making the grab.
