default is gdi
if using that setting it should drawn right at lest that was case in Sea Dogs tool.exe and with gta2 manager.exe also error messages from those looks the same to your debug messages I think this is problem with the big ddraw patch that moves ddraw to wine3d(between wine 0.9.15 and 0.9.16) that cause opengl problems ocurring from ddraw apps.
second workaround is to give command: xrandr -s 0 or any commmand that "refresh the screen" but I am not so sure how this works on fullscreen apps at lest it works in window apps.
Please post comment how did those tweaks affect with this bug.
