Summary: Trados: installation hanging due to failure at the registration of assembly Product: Wine Version: 0.9.60 Platform: Other OS/Version: other Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: enhancement Priority: P2 Component: mscoree AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: yolande@haneder.biz
Attached the log, it speaks for itself: The part starting with fixme:atl:AtlModuleInit SEMI-STUB (0x40eb40 0x40c040 0x400000) at the end was on my console as I sent the rest to a text file.
May be related or not to bug 12930 (and the failure of the service to initialize). Both do not happen at the same time but they appeared in the same version.
I added mscoree as component because on another log (installation/repair of the same problem) I saw that mscoree was loaded when mscorlib crashes.

--- Comment #3 from Yolande Haneder yolande@haneder.biz 2008-12-02 08:19:01 --- Installation has now to be skipped because it's not getting further when clicking "next" at the first installation screen of this component.
As seen from the log of SDLX, it looks like it's not fixed.

--- Comment #7 from Anastasius Focht focht@gmx.net 2009-08-22 10:02:20 --- Hello,
clean WINEPREFIX? Do you use winetricks steps before the installer?
Regards

--- Comment #8 from Yolande Haneder yolande@haneder.biz 2009-08-23 01:27:49 --- Yes clean wineprefix.
For the installation to succeed, I have to use some winetricks (fakeie dotnet20) and install vcredist86_exe because otherwise I will get problems during installation.

--- Comment #9 from Saulius K. saulius2@gmail.com 2009-08-23 01:41:52 --- Is this version 2007 you are using to test?

--- Comment #10 from Yolande Haneder yolande@haneder.biz 2009-08-23 02:19:09 --- Version 7 SP2. I let Dan Kegel have a copy 2 years ago if he is still there. You won't find a download anymore since the version 2009 is out. Version 2009 is not gonna work since SDL got rid of the only thing that was half way working in Wine to make a windows integrated tool.

--- Comment #12 from Austin English austinenglish@gmail.com 2011-03-29 19:31:08 CDT --- This is your friendly reminder that there has been no bug activity for 6 months. Is this still an issue in current (1.3.16 or newer) wine?
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=13679
--- Comment #13 from Saulius K. saulius2@gmail.com 2011-04-01 01:23:56 CDT --- Created an attachment (id=33884) --> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=33884) SDL Trados 2007 Installer startup window.
Oh boy, I've managed to get SP2 v835 at last -- downloaded it from some russian webserver:
-rw-r--r-- 1 winetester src 425922672 Mar 31 20:44 SDLTrados2007_PRO_SP2_835.exe 4bf41217f9661917d0380552ab6c2c95 SDLTrados2007_PRO_SP2_835.exe
Run it with clean WINEPREFIX on Wine-1.3.10.
Now it asks what kind of items should be installed. I went for default ones. With the 4th one (namely "SDL Trados 2007") I got a crash in 'C:\windows\system32\regsvr32.exe'.
Waiting after this for 23h I see the installer still saying in it's status window: "Processing SDL Trados 2007. Please wait".
Will test on 1.3.16 ASAP.
Yolande, should I check other (uncheck some marked) install items?

--- Comment #14 from Yolande Haneder yolande@haneder.biz 2011-04-01 02:14:36 CDT --- I am not sure that this is going to be worth to follow. This has been broken ever since the Wine team got officially .NET running, that way as I understood it they (I think crossover team) removed some bypass and ever since the .NET that was working with some tricks in my application is failing. Of course you cannot ask Wine to reintroduce the bypass and I am not sure it is worth anymore, SDL has fully changed their software in the course of the new versions in something windows integrated and removed the Java tool that actually helped Trados to work off Windows. SDL is in bed with Microsoft. They get the code for running their software embedded directly from Microsoft. This software is an encrypted monster and probably not anymore worth the effort for most users cannot find this old version on the official place.

--- Comment #15 from Bruno Jesus 00cpxxx@gmail.com 2013-10-02 19:45:41 CDT --- Before resolving this bug as abandoned I thing it's worth to try once more in wine 1.7.3. I can't find the application anywhere but since 2 different people have it I hope one of then can test.

--- Comment #16 from Anastasius Focht focht@gmx.net 2013-10-03 08:14:53 CDT --- Hello folks,
confirming. It seems there are multiple issues with the installer.
The main installer will automatically install following components:
"Install Script Engine 10.5" "Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0" "Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable" "Java 2 Runtime Environment" "SDL Trados 2007" "SDL Trados Synergy 2007" "SDLX 2007" "Activation Utility for SDL Trados 2007"
The .NET assembly registration issue is no longer present (probably fixed a long time ago) so rechristening the bug to target the main issue.
For J2SE you have to wait a bit (minute), it seems to "call home", checking for updates until the license dialog pops up. There is a crash in patch jre tool which is a different bug.
The hang reported in comment #13 ("Processing SDL Trados 2007. Please wait".) seems to be the blocker here.

--- Comment #17 from super_man@post.com --- I don't exactly get a hang, but it fails at "SDL Trados 2007". You can continue installing stuff, but at somepoint it wants you to reinstall things and you get the same issues again.
