Bug #: 28883 Summary: The Witcher 2: Portions of objects rendered as black. Product: Wine Version: 1.3.31 Platform: x86 OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: mblackwell1024@gmail.com Classification: Unclassified
The Witcher 2 suffers from strange anomalies where objects or parts of objects are drawn as black rather than textured. This occurs regardless of whether GLSL is enabled or disabled and is not the same as Bug 27194 (which is resolved).
The only console message during this time is:
fixme:d3d:resource_check_usage Unhandled usage flags 0x8.
over and over.
I've attached a screenshot showing the issue. Shifting the view slightly changes what will and won't be shown as black. It happens mostly outdoors and generally on foliage, although it sometimes appears on characters as well as the screenshot indicates.

--- Comment #3 from joaopa jeremielapuree@yahoo.fr 2012-04-29 21:04:36 CDT --- Did you install the update of the game?
If problem still occurs, please attach a backtrace.
And what is your graphic card?

--- Comment #4 from Jonathan Strander mblackwell1024@gmail.com 2012-04-29 21:16:15 CDT --- No crashes, and the console only shows what was previously posted. If you require more information you'll have to tell me exactly what you'd like (commands et al).
Graphics card is a NVIDIA GTX 460 768MB. Currently using driver 295.40.
Yes, this is present in the Enhanced Edition.

--- Comment #5 from DL dredgingthelake@gmail.com 2013-10-05 20:00:50 CDT --- I have the same issue. I have tested with Wine-1.7.1 and 1.7.3 using nvidia drivers 325.15.
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=28883
--- Comment #6 from DL dredgingthelake@gmail.com 2013-10-25 07:52:50 CDT --- I've been testing with the open source radeon drivers on a 6950 and this bug doesn't occur there. So it's perhaps specific to the nvidia binary drivers.
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=28883
--- Comment #7 from DL dredgingthelake@gmail.com 2013-10-25 09:46:22 CDT --- The bug also occurs when enabling the LLVM backend for the radeon driver with R600_DEBUG=llvm. It doesn't occur with Vadim's SB or the default backend.

--- Comment #8 from Shmerl shtetldik@gmail.com --- I can confirm the same problem still exists (it's apparent on Geralt's face, right in the beginning of tutorial).
System: Debian x86_64 (kernel 3.12.6). Wine: 1.7.11 Hardware: Nvidia GeForce GTX 680 Driver: Nvidia 331.38. Native override: d3dx9_43 (to avoid black screen, see bug #27344).
The only notable messages I could spot in the log:
fixme:d3d:resource_check_usage Unhandled usage flags 0x8. fixme:d3d9:Direct3DShaderValidatorCreate9 stub fixme:d3d:resource_check_usage Unhandled usage flags 0x8. fixme:d3d:resource_check_usage Unhandled usage flags 0x8. fixme:d3d:resource_check_usage Unhandled usage flags 0x8. fixme:d3d:state_lastpixel Last Pixel Drawing Disabled, not handled yet fixme:d3d:resource_check_usage Unhandled usage flags 0x8.

--- Comment #11 from Jonathan Strander mblackwell1024@gmail.com --- Nevermind I forgot to enable GLSL.

--- Comment #12 from Shmerl shtetldik@gmail.com --- The bug is still present in Wine 1.7.22. And cinematic depth of field still causes close up dialogs to appear as mostly black with some characters outlines.
