Summary: Dragging of components within Guitar Rig does not end and results in crash Product: Wine Version: 1.1.21 Platform: PC OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: major Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: nf10537@googlemail.com
A main feature of Guitar Rig 3 is to drag components from the left side of the program to the effect chain on the right. A component can be anything from the "Components" tab and it also doesn't matter where on the right side you place it. The placing is indicated by Guitar Rig by a orange line. It seems that dragging is recognized by wine but the release of the dragged component is not possible so wine keeps waiting for the end of the drag and after clicking and pressing ESC the program crashes.
Guitar Rig 3.2.1 Demo can be downloaded here: http://www.native-instruments.com/index.php?id=gr3demo&L=2
The rest of Guitar Rig 3 is running completely fine. Even better than on windows because of the real low latency of jack :-)
I'd really love to use Guitar Rig 3 with the dragging feature. I am new to wine and I don't know the windows API that much but I am familiar with c programming and debugging. Is there more I can do to find out the exact source of the problem? Do you have any other hints which might help?
Please don't hesitate to contact me on nf10537@googlemail.com

Terminal output of the crash?

The dragging process is not recognized as finished when the mouse button is released. If you do nothing the program keeps running, continually displaying the IDropTargetHelper_fnDragOver message. When pressing ESC the IDropTargetHelper_fnDrop message appears and the program crashes.

--- Comment #3 from nf10537@googlemail.com 2009-06-08 11:14:49 --- This Bug seems to be a regression. I have asked Stefan Bethge who tested Guitar Rig 3 with Wine 0.9.46 and rated it as "Gold" (see AppDB). He confirmed that the dragging inside of Guitar Rig was working in 0.9.46 and also with some 1.x.x version. I tried to find an old 1.x.x wine version which is working but unfortionally I can not get Guitar Rig 3 running with wine versions smaller than 1.1.6 The versions 1.1.6 to 1.1.22 do have this bug.

--- Comment #4 from Sebastian J gonX@overclocked.net 2010-02-10 17:43:29 --- An older version of Guitar Rig 3 (3.1.1.010) does not have this problem. I remember the newer version of Guitar Rig 3 (+3.2) having this problem though. The newer Guitar Rig 4 is also affected by it.

--- Comment #5 from dedi dedicaid@gmail.com 2010-04-16 05:07:52 --- has any progress been attempted with this? software is unusable in the field with this bug, cant just go crashing on stage every time you accidently drag a component. using gr4 and kontroller4
on another not would love to see the foot pedal work .

--- Comment #6 from domino66@live.fr 2010-08-22 17:05:10 --- I found that if you press control while you drag the components, it drops it, its kind of a workaround for me but if it can help you find the bug.

Works for components left to right, crashes when moving components from within the right side, i use wine 1.2 and guitar rig 4. i create amps from scratch and drag from left to right, then release the mouse button and tap control, and it works for me but this bug should really be fixed, i love this app.

I agree with wine 1.3 left to right works sort of . within right side still fails. i hear some pre ver 1 worked fine maybe i will try taking the dragdrop helper and merging with new. please keep this bug rolling.
