Summary: HL2 Ep2 / Portal: Massive slowdown in some areas Product: Wine Version: 1.1.20 Platform: PC-x86-64 OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: directx-d3d AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: liquid.acid@gmx.net
Entering certain areas in Portal or HL2 Ep2 lets the game slow down big time.
The slowdown is accompanied with these FIXMEs: fixme:d3d_surface:surface_load_ds_location (0x1587a8) Not supported with fixed up depth stencil fixme:d3d:fixed_get_input Unsupported input stream [usage=WINED3DDECLUSAGE_POSITION, usage_idx=1] fixme:d3d:fixed_get_input Unsupported input stream [usage=WINED3DDECLUSAGE_NORMAL, usage_idx=1]
I suspect this is triggering by the game trying to use vertex tweening.

--- Comment #1 from Tobias Jakobi liquid.acid@gmx.net 2009-04-26 11:42:22 --- MSDN entry about vertex tweening: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb206340%28VS.85%29.aspx
This looks surprisingly easy! Looks just like ordinary linear interpolation of vertex position and normal - I though "tweening" to be a bit more sophisticated...

--- Comment #3 from Tobias Jakobi liquid.acid@gmx.net 2009-08-06 11:04:53 --- Note: This probably needs the vertex pipeline replacement code (dunno if stefand is actively working on that anymore).

--- Comment #4 from Roland Haeder roland@mxchange.org 2010-07-10 13:50:17 --- Still with 1.2-RC7, especially in the beginning map of EP2 (I don't have Portal). But once you enter the first cave the FPS is back to acceptable values (I estimate around 20-30 FPS).

--- Comment #6 from Alexey Loukianov mooroon2@mail.ru 2011-09-11 05:42:07 CDT --- I'd like to test this bug on my HW/SW with Wine versions from 1.3.0 till 1.3.28.
Could somebody provide me with more details about how to trigger this bug? I need to know: * what settings should I set in GPU driver control panel? * what values should be set for OffscreenRenderingMode, glsl and multisampling registry keys? * at what place in what game the bug is most noticeable? * what is the FPS drop level I should expect when this bug triggers?
Thanks in advance.

--- Comment #7 from Austin English austinenglish@gmail.com 2013-11-13 16:49:05 CST --- This is your friendly reminder that there has been no bug activity for 2 years. Is this still an issue in current (1.7.6 or newer) wine? If so, please attach the terminal output in 1.7.6 (see http://wiki.winehq.org/FAQ#get_log).
