Summary: AtcWindows - modal windows don't stay on top Product: Wine Version: 1.1.34 Platform: PC OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: sportflieger2004-wbug@yahoo.de
Under MS Windows these modal windows can be placed anywhere on the screen, clicking the main window doesn't hide them. Not so under Wine: clicking the main window puts it on top hiding the modal windows.

--- Comment #1 from Dmitry Timoshkov dmitry@codeweavers.com 2009-12-17 05:30:12 --- What Window Manager are you using? Is there a demo version of the app?
(You don't need to be in the cc: list since you are the reporter)

--- Comment #2 from Chris sportflieger2004-wbug@yahoo.de 2009-12-17 06:00:48 --- WindowMaker 0.92.0-7ubuntu1 (Ubuntu 8.04.3 LTS)
Wine configuration: 1. install Wine 2. start winecfg 3. cancel Gecko installation 4. set Windows version: Windows XP 5. on the graphic tab under window properties: check fist (DirectX application can grab the mouse), uncheck 2-4 6. leave other settings untouched, end application 6. get the fonts and the Visual C++ runtime libs: sh winetricks allfonts vcrun6sp6
You can download the app for free without any restrictions from the download area of the Yahoo group atcwindows (but you have to join the group first).

- start winecfg
- cancel Gecko installation
- set Windows version: Windows XP
- on the graphic tab under window properties: check fist (DirectX application
can grab the mouse), uncheck 2-4 6. leave other settings untouched, end application 6. get the fonts and the Visual C++ runtime libs: sh winetricks allfonts vcrun6sp6
Is there a reason why you do the steps above? Also have you tested with Gnome or KDE?

Thanks for the quick reply I did these steps above because I thaught that it would fix my problem. It is in fact a person that wanted to display the configuration of his own Wine. (even though I tried it anyway). I have Ubuntu 8.04 on Gnome.
Thanks,
Yan.

ad 3. it's not necessary for the app
ad 4. it default anyway (I just wanted to make sure what OS is selected)
ad 5. in the meantime I found out that the first check (DirectX) is not necessary because the app doesn't use DirectX; I uncheck 2 to get more screen for the app, 3 to avoid problems with the windows manager (WindowMaker) and 4 to use the complete screen
ad 7. necessary to get the app run (otherwise I get an error about missing lib)
No, I haven't tested the app under Gnome or KDE. I will do so and report back.

--- Comment #7 from Chris sportflieger2004-wbug@yahoo.de 2010-01-02 01:26:57 --- I've run the app under Gnome (Ubuntu 8.04.3).
The good news is that the modal windows stay on top (I had to check "allow the window manager to controll the windows" in the winecfg), the bad that modal windows are gone (=not visible any longer) as soon as I iconify the main window - and I don't get them back (no icons, no windows in the taskbar etc. to click).
Another issue it that I get several warnings from the window manager, e.g.: "Fenstermanager-Warnung (=translation by me: 'window manager warning'): Received a _NET_WM_MOVERESIZE message for 0x360004a (QNH); these messages lack timestamps and therefore suck."
and
"Fenstermanager-Warnung: Fenster 0x360004a (QNH) zeigt durch einen MWM-Wink an, dass die Größe nicht veränderbar ist, setzt jedoch die minimale Größe auf 1 x 1 und die maximale Größe auf 2147483647 x 2147483647; dies ergibt keinen Sinn." (=that means:"window manager warning:MWM hint of the window 0x360004a (QNH) indicates that the window size cannot be changed but sets the min size to 1x1 and the max size to 2147483647...; that makes no sense")
QNH is one of the modal windows. I get the same message for the other modal windows too.

--- Comment #8 from Christian c_pradelli@yahoo.com 2010-07-05 08:24:32 --- I'm having the same problem. Tested in 1.2.RC6 It can be reproduced with IBExpert Personal Edition (free) from http://www.ibexpert.net Install it, when you start it for first time select MDI windows. go to menu "Options" -> "Enviroment Options..." This is a modal window, but you can select main window and it becomes on top of the "Enviroment Options" window, after this the application hangs becomes unusable and you need to kill it.
