I'm not sure if the problem is with Wine or Macports but I have followed the
directions at http://davidbaumgold.com/tutorials/wine-mac/#part-1 and contacted
the author who has read the log. Here is his response:

"Looks like there's a problem with how a file is being compiled: it
can't find the symbols it needs to compile properly. This could be a
problem with Wine itself, or with the way Macports installs it. I
checked Google, and I don't see anyone else with this problem, which
is odd."
"I suggest you create a bug report on either
trac.macports.org or http://bugs.winehq.org (or both!) and attach that
log file to that bug report. Hopefully, someone more knowledgable than
me will be able to help you out.

I have done as he said and attached the log and I will place a bug report with
macports after this one is sent.

I don't quite understand... are you saying he should have ensured the log
file's extension was .txt before uploading it? MacPorts log files are called
"main.log". They are text files, in UTF-8 encoding as of MacPorts 2; they just
use the extension .log instead of .txt. .log is a pretty common extension for
log files to use -- see for example the config.log file configure scripts
create -- so if your issue tracker has a problem with .log files, it might be
to your advantage to modify your issue tracker configuration to fix this.

In the MacPorts ticket the reporter filed about this issue, he attached a
main.log file showing the same issue with wine 1.3.29.

When attaching a file, you have the choice to let bugzilla auto-detect it's
type or select it. Txt files are always set to text/plain while other files are
guessed by their content. It seems that some UTF files are wrongly recognized
as binary files (applcation/octet-stream) and this confuses bugzilla making it
necessary to download the file instead of opening in the browser.

Can you try building with http://code.google.com/p/osxwinebuilder/ ? It looks
very much like a MacPorts-specific problem to me. At least I've never seen it
when building wine on Mac OS X (it's been a while now, but I've built several
versions between 1.3.17 and 1.5.2 included and never saw this error).

It looks very much like a user-specific problem to me, since I, the other
maintainers of the Wine ports in MacPorts, and our other users, have not
reported this problem either.
