Bug ID: 41265 Summary: Far Cry 1: game crashes when using mouse wheel Product: Wine Version: 1.9.18 Hardware: x86-64 OS: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown Assignee: wine-bugs@winehq.org Reporter: DanBrake0819@freenet.de Distribution: ---
Created attachment 55565 --> https://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=55565 logfile
Far Cry 1.4 (and unofficial 1.5 patch) crashes when using the mouse wheel. It happens in the latest Wine version (1.9.18). I also tested the latest stable version (1.8.4) and an older stable version (1.6.2)... the same thing: crash when using the mouse wheel.

Do you have any terminal output as this happens? That log file looks like something from the game.
Also, does the game crash with a backtrace? If so, it would help to paste the contents of the backtrace as well :)

The game crashed without any sign of a backtrace, or at least I didn't find it.

I noticed you have a PlayOnLinux directory, does the same crash occur when you use Wine without PlayOnLinux?

--- Comment #5 from PelzR DanBrake0819@freenet.de --- Currently I can't tell anything. I tried it without Playonlinux and it worked. After a restart (and removed Wine files from WineHQ) of my PC the Playonlinux version works well.
I will try to install Far Cry on another PC with Wine only and see if this problem still exist.

I think part of the problem may be how PoL has the various Wine versions compiled and the install scripts. I've heard that these install scripts can go stale (what worked on an earlier version of Wine may not work the same or at all on a newer version...).

--- Comment #7 from PelzR DanBrake0819@freenet.de --- Another PC, another run. This time I've used Wine 1.9.18 directly from the WineHQ repository.
The same problem: the game crashes when I'm using the mouse wheel.

Created attachment 55606 [details] Wine 1.9.18 Far Cry Log
Most likely you need to make a debug log with some channel on. See wine FAQ for debugging. This log doesnt really reveal what's wrong.

--- Comment #10 from Amosar maxi.cass11@gmail.com --- Seems not appear with 2.18 staging (I don't know if it's useful but I think if the bug is no longer present we need to mark it to solved)

I have reproduce this issue. with wine 2.18-staging The problem seems appear when the game is run with a resolution different than the screen resolution.
But if you have previously configured your video settings on the configuration tools (I have test with steam) the problem not appear.
(For the terminal output I have tried to stop directly after the crash)
