TES: Morrowind occasionally ceases to respond or function when outdoors if a region load boundary is reached, but only when using pbuffers. With FBO's, no crashes have been encountered, though the loading screen is abnormally drawn in bright cyan.

tested with wine-1.1.1
backbuffer: starts, plays videos (slowly and with skips), game starts, everything looks good, crashes on exit
fbo: seems to behave exactly the same as backbuffer
pbuffer: immediately shows alert "render creation error: "unknown stencil mode format." and when i press ok exits

Did roam around the island a bit, triggering multiple region loads. No crashes.
@Michal: What gfx hardware and drivers are you using?

when i start any directx application i always get fixme:d3d:test_pbo_functionality >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> GL_INVALID_OPERATION (0x502) from Loading the PBO test texture @ directx.c / 3594
so i guess crash with pbuffers can be related to this

I use fglrx 8.5 too with Radeon HD 3870.
I (and all of us I think) get that FIXME too, but the game for me works anyway. Are you aware of bug 12929? With current GIT the bug is "fixed", so this problem could be resolved.
