Bug #: 32632 Summary: Dragon Naturally Speaking 12 does not load with timeout error Product: Wine Version: unspecified Platform: x86 OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: ntdll AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: susancragin@earthlink.net Classification: Unclassified
This is probably a regression.
I haven't used Naturally Speaking 12.0 in a couple of weeks, and have noticed two wine updates since then coming through the Ubuntu ppa servers, both almost back-to-back.
I tried it this morning and had a timeout error.
Here is the relevant section:
fixme:thread:GetThreadPreferredUILanguages 52, 0x32de90, 0x32df00 0x32de98
err:ntdll:RtlpWaitForCriticalSection section 0x7e3817e0 "window.c: win_data_section" wait timed out in thread 0017, blocked by 0042, retrying (60 sec)
THE PROGRAM FROZE FOR A LONG TIME AFTER DISPLAYING THIS
err:ntdll:RtlpWaitForCriticalSection section 0x7e3817e0 "window.c: win_data_section" wait timed out in thread 005d, blocked by 0042, retrying (60 sec) err:ntdll:RtlpWaitForCriticalSection section 0x7e3817e0 "window.c: win_data_section" wait timed out in thread 0009, blocked by 0042, retrying (60 sec) err:seh:raise_exception Unhandled exception code e06d7363 flags 1 addr 0x7b83b839
THEN EXITED.
AFAIK I am unable to do regression testing since I run a 64-bit system and have not been able to compile wine for months and months.

--- Comment #2 from Susan Cragin susancragin@earthlink.net 2013-01-02 15:19:02 CST --- This is not a regression, nor is it a fatal bug. After several stops and starts, including re-booting, I got the program to run. Timeout errors occur when the program is being set up for the first time, and a one-time message such as "search all e-mails now" needs to pop up, just once. The timeout error and program end occur before that. Re-starting the program three times does the trick, as each time clears out one of the pop-up messages.

--- Comment #3 from Susan Cragin susancragin@earthlink.net 2013-04-12 09:10:49 CDT --- This is still a problem with wine 1.5.27. To sum up, the program loads correctly, however, the first couple of times you try to run it, it gets caught up in a timeout error while trying to display some information box. If you re-boot the computer, the next time the information box displays correctly (after a long wait) but then it gets caught up on a timeout error for the next information box. NatSpeak has two or three of these, which only show up on the first opening (thank goodness). However, the timeout error probably affects the program in other ways. For instance, after I have been dictating for a while, put the microphone into "go to sleep" state, walk away for a few minutes, then come back and say "wake up" sometimes the program has lost focus.

--- Comment #5 from Don Pobanz dpobanz@gmail.com 2013-11-28 17:06:20 CST --- I am seeing a similar 'RtlpWaitForCriticalSection' err when trying to install sql server express 2005. The following error repeats itself:
err:ntdll:RtlpWaitForCriticalSection section 0x781c1be0 "?" wait timed out in thread 0027, blocked by 0000, retrying (60 sec)

--- Comment #6 from Austin English austinenglish@gmail.com --- This is your friendly reminder that there has been no bug activity for over a year. Is this still an issue in current (1.7.37 or newer) wine? If so, please attach the terminal output in 1.7.37 (see http://wiki.winehq.org/FAQ#get_log).

--- Comment #7 from Don Pobanz dpobanz@gmail.com --- Created attachment 50836 --> https://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=50836 terminal log - installing sql server express 2005 (Wine 1.7.37)
program 'sql server express 2005' still crashes with the message:

--- Comment #8 from Don Pobanz dpobanz@gmail.com --- However, I am no longer seeing the error message:

--- Comment #10 from Susan Cragin susancragin@gmail.com --- This issue was not completely resolved but ameliorated in a recent wine verion. AFAIK 12.0 and 12.5 start running correctly after a single crash.
I no longer test version 12.0 or 12.5 and have moved on to 13.0.
13.0 has a different startup routine. Right now it does not load properly due to either a regression or some sort of mistake I have made. But when it did load and run properly it still crashed once.
I have bugs filed against 13.0 that need to be resolved before I can file a new bug about this issue. bug 38834 bug 38805
So this bug is partly fixed and partly will be superceded by a bug against 13.0 that I haven't filed yet.
My suggestion? Mark it as fixed.
