Bug #: 30111 Summary: Crysis 2 ingame crashes Product: Wine Version: 1.4-rc6 Platform: x86 OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: directx-d3d AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: christian.frank@gmx.de Classification: Unclassified
Hi Guys,
after getting the crysis2 loading issue fixed, i noticed that the game itself runs well, but very very unstable.
The game simply crashes. The last i see on the console is (the d3d_texure fixme is repeatedly displayed all the time you play)
fixme:d3d_texture:wined3d_texture_generate_mipmaps texture 0x159925c8 stub! fixme:d3d_texture:wined3d_texture_generate_mipmaps texture 0x15992338 stub! fixme:faultrep:ReportFault 0x32df20 0x0 stub fixme:d3d_texture:wined3d_texture_generate_mipmaps texture 0x159925c8 stub!
The sound of the game is still running but the process is [defunct].
Any ideas on how to debug this issue ? Any recommend traces ?
I also noticed a freeze after a ingame video sequence.
Many thanks, Christian

Hi Alex,
the revert which is mentioned in
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=29998
only helps to be able to load savegames with newer wine versions. Right now i have no idea how to solve the frequent game crashes nor how to debug them.
Any wine pro here has any tips which debugs to use when a game decides to stop working ?
Many thanks, Christian

--- Comment #4 from Christian christian.frank@gmx.de 2012-03-10 04:07:45 CST --- very interesting indeed. How did you disable audio in game ??? I also played around with sound settings this morning cause i read that it caused some crashes for windows people too..

--- Comment #5 from Christian christian.frank@gmx.de 2012-03-10 06:39:18 CST --- ok, i disabled audio via disabling mmdevapi, but the crashes are still there. So seems not to be a sound issue for the crashes.

--- Comment #6 from fervi thunderstormpolska@o2.pl 2012-03-20 15:29:12 CDT --- I have maybe - stupid Idea, but try it please ;)
When I play Crysis 2 in my laptop - The card graphic temperature was hot. Then Crysis 2 start lagging (probably to set lowest temperature). I think - When you have too hot Graphics, Crysis 2 try to cold (?) it, but Wine can't (or something like that), and that's is reason. BUT I DIDN'T CHECK
Sorry for my Bad english ;)

I tried installing d3dx9_36 via winetricks, and that didn't help. Next I tried directx9 (again via winetricks), but still no luck.
The level I'm on at the moment has a very large open area, and this seems to allow me to reproduce this crash quite quickly.

--- Comment #12 from Adam Bolte boltronics@gmail.com 2013-01-19 18:51:59 CST --- Still an issue with 1.5.22. I've been able to play the game up until level 4 "Road Rage", but despite many attempts cannot get past this one without crashes.
If I load a save game from that level (just after the small cut-scene near the start), the game will crash the instant I move the mouse and/or keyboard immediately after it. If I don't touch the keyboard and mouse, I don't think it would ever crash - despite the smoke, dust, grass, trees and gun movement on the screen and hearing the sound effects of enemies and tremors.
If I start the level via Campaign -> Replay Mission -> Road Rage from the main menu, I can get further... but ultimately the level will still crash eventually. Usually within a few seconds, but sometimes I can get it running for maybe close to 2 minutes.
Attempts at working around this by disabling mmdevapi (which disables sound), or lowering the resolution even further (down to 800x600) had no effect. The crashes remain.
Would be interested to know if anyone else has managed to pass this level? The previous parts of the game didn't seem too unreliable when I lowered the resolution to 1280x720, so level 4 is the only real blocker at this point.

--- Comment #15 from Stefan hybrid@onlinehome.de --- And still in 1.7.21 as it has been in just about every version of wine. The only reason I say "just about every version" is because I can't verify I've tested it with every wine version. But every wine version I tested it with (which probably was just about every wine version there was) it didn't work. Never did, basically from day one. Also I don't really understand how the status of this bug report, that was filed over two years ago with quite some replies and a lot mor replies regarding these crashes in the general comment section of the game, can be unconfirmed.

We don't really use the distinction between NEW/UNCONFIRMED (and ASSIGNED only marginally), effectively anything that's not RESOLVED/REOPENED/CLOSED is NEW. It's perhaps unfortunate that that's not reflected in the interface.
