Bug ID: 45990 Summary: Steam activation(first run) for Black Ops 2 zombies does not go through Product: Wine-staging Version: 3.18 Hardware: x86-64 OS: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown Assignee: wine-bugs@winehq.org Reporter: spleefer90@gmail.com CC: leslie_alistair@hotmail.com, z.figura12@gmail.com Distribution: ---
First-run of this game on Steam is not possible on staging. It is possible to launch the game (into an error and crash) on staging after it has been ran first by devel.
Tested on a recent wine-staging git built (3.18 based) and with wine-devel 3.17 (because 3.18 has a regression with Steam).
This has been an issue for a long time, am just reporting it late as I never realized how exactly is it happening.

--- Comment #1 from Zebediah Figura z.figura12@gmail.com --- Apologies for the delay in response.
To be clear, there are no problems running the game with upstream Wine (before 3.18), correct?
In what manner does the game fail? Is there any console output given when it does?

--- Comment #2 from C0rn3j spleefer90@gmail.com --- There's a separate bug report for the game crashing here - https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=41267
I made this issue just for the first-run activation on steam that doesn't work on staging. After that it crashes in the regular manner as per the above bug report.

--- Comment #3 from C0rn3j spleefer90@gmail.com --- Re-reading my bug report I see where I might have confused you, to clarify - Launching the game for the first time does some weird auth stuff, and that does not work anymore. You will get this response after a timeout if you try to launch the game:
"The Steam servers are too busy to handle your request for Call of Duty: Black Ops II - Zombies. Error Code (55)"
Making Steam verify the game files is enough for the auth to be removed(iirc something to do with .exe modification), so great for testing.
I've retested and it seems to be completely random if it's going to work or not. I got the auth working once on 4.0rc1 wine-devel for example, but trying again I got the error above.
I went back to 3.17 devel which I reported to be working correctly only to be met with the same behavior, it seems to activate willy-nilly no matter the version?
That said I didn't get it working a single time on staging so far.

--- Comment #4 from C0rn3j spleefer90@gmail.com --- After countless tries I managed to game to activate on 4.0rc5.
It seems like I had to restart the whole steam client for the activation to go through, as trying about 15 times in a row did not work.
Changed from wine-staging to wine.

--- Comment #6 from Zebediah Figura z.figura12@gmail.com --- Thanks. It's certainly possible there's something in Staging that makes the problem worse.
I don't want to promise anything, but if possible, can you please attach a log with +relay,+seh,+debugstr? I think either upstream or Staging will probably be fine (though please specify which).
