Summary: OpenGL rendering in C&C TS/RA2 not working for newer GeForce cards Product: Wine Version: 0.9.45. Platform: PC URL: ftp://ftp.westwood.com/pub/tiberiansun/previews/demo OS/Version: Linux Status: NEW Keywords: download Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: wine-directx-ddraw AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: alex@thehandofagony.com
While setting DirectDrawRenderer = 'opengl' gives great speed improvements for GeForce FX cards, it renders the game unstable with GeForce 6 or 7 cards, and makes the drawing even slower.

--- Comment #1 from Roderick Colenbrander thunderbird2k@gmx.net 2007-09-29 09:01:56 --- Make sure you are using RenderTargetLockMode=readtex.

--- Comment #2 from Alexander Nicolaysen Sørnes alex@thehandofagony.com 2007-09-29 12:41:21 --- I've done that. It worked fine on the same computer until I upgraded the graphics card.

--- Comment #3 from Alexander Nicolaysen Sørnes alex@thehandofagony.com 2007-10-14 07:25:40 --- Using Wine 0.9.47 RA2 works much faster even on a GF 7 card. Thanks for the great work!

--- Comment #4 from Alexander Nicolaysen Sørnes alex@thehandofagony.com 2007-10-14 07:45:03 --- Turns out I closed this prematurely. While RA2 works fine, Tiberian Sun experiences big rendering problems every time you move the mouse; like the units flickering or a wrong part of the map being displayed.

--- Comment #5 from Alexander Nicolaysen Sørnes alex@thehandofagony.com 2007-10-17 15:13:30 --- In Red Alert 2 it is only the units that are flickering. However it is not so critical as Tiberian Sun, but you do notice it when playing the game. The problem is annoying but the game is still playable.

--- Comment #6 from Alexander Nicolaysen Sørnes alex@thehandofagony.com 2007-10-28 10:29:28 --- Still happens in 0.9.48.

--- Comment #8 from Alexander Nicolaysen Sørnes alex@thehandofagony.com 2007-11-09 15:49:11 --- With this patch by Roderick Colenbrander C&C Tiberian Sun works just fine

Red Alert 2 still has some problems, but this patch helps.

--- Comment #9 from Roderick Colenbrander thunderbird2k@gmx.net 2007-11-13 09:01:44 --- The patch that fixes Tiberian Sun is in GIT now. Please submit a different bug for Red Alert II. It could be a different problem. The original C&C / Red Alert also have a strange issue.

--- Comment #10 from Roderick Colenbrander thunderbird2k@gmx.net 2007-11-13 12:11:47 --- For now just respond in this bug. What issue is left in Red Alert II using latest git? As next to that glFlush patch some other patch went in to reduce opengl context switches. That one might have helped a lot too.
For me Red Alert II feels very smooth.

--- Comment #11 from Alexander Nicolaysen Sørnes alex@thehandofagony.com 2007-11-13 13:27:32 --- I think I applied the context patch too, but anyway it is completely smooth with current GIT. Thanks! :)

--- Comment #12 from Alexander Nicolaysen Sørnes alex@thehandofagony.com 2007-11-14 09:38:33 --- I just found a problem: if you change the resolution from withing Red Alert 2 and then start a new game, the game will only draw on parts of the screen, showing your other windows in the non-drawn parts. At this point it will be unresponsive.
That wouldn't normally be a problem, but Yuri's Revenge uses a non-configurable resolution of 800x600 on the main menu, so if your settings are 1024x768 the game will switch resoulution when entering a game . . .
TThis happens in Wine 0.9.49 as well as yesterday's GIT.
