Summary: BITS background transfer job size is always unknown Product: Wine Version: 1.1.27 Platform: PC URL: http://www.eveonline.com/download/ OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: qmgr AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: kelfe@gmx.de
Using the small installer to download Eve Online creates a background transfer job with one file.
The file size progress works but the job totalbytes stays BG_SIZE_UNKOWN. This leads to the percentage to stay at 0 and the time left calculation should only garbage.
According to MSDN the job size should be set as soon as all file sizes of the job are known.

--- Comment #2 from Rob rob.verduijn@gmail.com 2009-11-03 05:59:24 --- Hello,
The download size is now known, but the download percentage stays at 0% and the estimated time remaining is giberish it says "estimated time remaining : 345453:23:23" (the numbers vary)
When the download is done (according to the download size) the program continues (after a while).
I got a validation failed after a while.
Could this be something with the filesize ? It's 2047Mb according to the download program.
Cheers Rob Verduijn
system info: opensuse 11.2 rc2 i586 wine 1.1.32

I forgot, according to the small installer the download size is 2047Mb but if you download the file manually it is 2.2Gb
So it only downloads first 2 GB, right?

--- Comment #6 from Rob rob.verduijn@gmail.com 2010-03-23 04:55:33 --- I do not remember and cannot test it because the installer immediately reports a faulty checksum when it is supposed to start downloading. wine version 1.1.41 opensuse 11.2 x86 used the following rpm's from the suse build service
wine-mp3-1.1.39-1.pm.12.2.i586 wine-1.1.41-1.1.i586 wine-gecko-1.0.0-5.1.i586
used winetricks to install corefonts tahoma gdiplus dotnet30
no other hacks were applied

--- Comment #7 from Rob rob.verduijn@gmail.com 2010-05-28 02:44:14 --- Hi I tested this with the new eve update tyrannis.
machine config: opensuse 11.2 i586 wine 1.2-rc1
used winetricks to install corefonts tahoma gdiplus dotnet30
The download remains at 0% (zero percent) and the time remaining remains at a high figure number that changes every second. The downloaded file is 2.6Gb in size
After the file download finishes a screen pops up saying the package is corrupt and suggests an attempt to try and fix it.
A repair tool is downloaded and it starts the download again for all the corrupted files (577.4Mb in my case). The download statistics are showing correct numbers during this download. ie percentage done and remaining amount of files and the megabytes done and remaining.
The repair tool repairs the corrupted download.
After the repair tool is finished the installation of eve starts. The eve installation tool finishes properly but there is a pop-up from wine warning that the winemenubuilder.exe has crashed.
summary: The eve download tool will corrupt your download. The eve download repair tool will fix the corrupted download. The eve download repair tool will probably download a lot of additional megabytes of data for this. The wine winemenubuilder.exe crashes during the installation. Eve works in the end.
You don't wanna try this on a slow connection :P

--- Comment #10 from Alan Luth alanluth@gmail.com 2010-10-20 06:04:16 CDT --- Issue appears with wine 1.3.5 on opensuse 10.3
On installing the client with the downloader it starts downloading, estimated time gives weird numbers and when complete it runs the eve repair program to fix the install.
Game works after installing

--- Comment #13 from evanh evanh@clear.net.nz 2012-10-02 19:41:44 CDT --- A lot has changed since this bug. Eve no longer has the standalone installers for patching and the online updater has been tacked onto the front of the main install so that it, by default, checks for updates each time the client is launched.
I can't vouch for this particular bug but the download progress indicators these days are working well and even the need for fiddling with DLL overrides is gone.
Good work to the Wine team!
