Summary: Firefox 3.6 problems on FreeBSD Product: Wine Version: 1.1.38 Platform: x86 OS/Version: FreeBSD Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: eflaras@gmail.com
Firefox 3.6 on FreeBSD. Rough, text and mangled graphics. Appears to be a alpha transparency problem perhaps. Using FreeBSD 8.0, Wine 1.1.38 from winehq. SAme problem exists in the port . Other bugs also observed such as the fact windows do not close, and the fact that HTML forms do not work, which is already described in other reports. All features worked well in wine 1.1.14 under freebsd 7.1 . This is a regression. Firefox is presently unuseable.

--- Comment #4 from Michael Stefaniuc mstefani@redhat.com 2010-05-25 16:59:48 --- Did you try running Wine 1.1.14 on FreeBSD 8.0? Not that the regression is due to the upgrade from FreeBSD 7.1 to 8.0.

--- Comment #5 from Richard shiningarcanine@gmail.com 2010-06-25 19:57:44 --- Did you compile with support for fontconfig? I use Gentoo Linux and I find that all text is rough unless fontconfig support is enabled.

--- Comment #7 from David djackson780@gmail.com 2010-07-16 17:26:06 --- thank you for the advice on the fontconfig. I will try to figure out if it is being compiled in., Although there are problems with images as well, so im not sure if that is it. I am running FreeBSD 8.0.

--- Comment #8 from David djackson780@gmail.com 2010-07-16 18:00:46 --- I have not been able to find any documentation on how to force a build with fontconfig on the Wine website or documentation. it would be important to havea compile time switch to force building with libraries, and as well one to force building with all required libraries and documentation if needed to tell it where to find these libraries if necessary. I cannot find any of this documentation.

--- Comment #9 from David djackson780@gmail.com 2010-07-16 18:09:46 --- I have tried both the FreeBSD port packages and a compile from source from WineHQ with similar problems. First of all, FreeBSDs port should include by default all of the recommended dependancies to make sure everything that might be needed is there. Ive had trouble finding out if the wine binary has font-config compiled in or not or what has been included with the binary. Since this problem includes images I do not think it is font config anyway. there should be a flag for compile with all of the recommended dependancies and fail if they cannot be found.
As for the mangled graphics, I am going to try to compile Wine 1.2 and see what results i get with the new version.

--- Comment #10 from Richard shiningarcanine@gmail.com 2010-07-16 18:19:02 --- It should say at the start of the configure script what options have been enabled. I use Gentoo Linux, which has a package manager that was inspired by the FreeBSD ports system. Here is an example from my system:

--- Comment #11 from David djackson780@gmail.com 2010-07-22 12:14:51 --- I believe there is probably still a bug in Wine. I have also experiences severe regressions with Flash which the installer will now not run properly. It seems like Wine is getting worse with each new version. A year ago firefox and flash worked perfectly, now they dont work well at all. Why? Perhaps wine should deincrement the version number with each release as it seems things are going backwards.

--- Comment #12 from André H. nerv@dawncrow.de 2010-07-22 12:31:07 --- That comment didnt look forward either. Such comments are not helpful in any way and you should continue adding comments with useful information. As you already mentioned it looks like an Alphablending problem and really seems BSD specific as i did not heard of a linux user having such problems.
Still, a regression test would help.

Works in PC-BSD, can anyone retest in Freebsd in wine 1.5.9? Or is it valid to use PC-BSD as the test OS in the FreeBSD case?
