Created an attachment (id=12948) --> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=12948) Crash logs from wine and vmplayer, including error dialogue pictures.
vmplayer crashes with wine 1.0-rc1. A version of vmplayer can be downloaded from http://www.softpedia.com/progDownload/VMware-Player-Download-28391.html
The following account of the problem will refer to the vmplayer-crash-logs.tar.gz attachment. In the attachment are the following: vmplayer-wine-crash.log - wine crash log vmware-quatre-8.log - vmplayer crash log pictures of error messages from vmplayer
Note: The wine logs are marked to show when the error dialogues appear and are dismissed.
Wine correctly installed vmplayer. When vmplayer is run with no arguments it should bring up a menu asking which virtual machine to run. Instead, the error seen in vmplayer-error.jpg popups up. After it is dismissed, the program chugs away for another few moments, then popups up vmplayer-error2.jpg. After pressing ok, the application crashes.
The wine in question is v1.0-rc1 and was built from source with default configuration. vmplayer was run using an empty ~/.wine directory.

--- Comment #1 from Marco Schuster marco@harddisk.is-a-geek.org 2008-05-11 18:39:13 --- Why would anyone run VMPlayer inside WINE? It's useless, as native versions exist; and virtualizers tend to use stuff WINE never can emulate (direct HW access).
(This does not mean it is not a good test case!)

--- Comment #2 from Quatre Horrace exvagabond436824@yahoo.com 2008-05-11 19:07:59 --- I figured it was a reach using vmplayer with wine. I was just curious if it would work. (:

--- Comment #4 from Vitaliy Margolen vitaliy@kievinfo.com 2008-05-11 19:43:20 --- No it will not ever work. Wine does not emulate kernel in it's entirety. Closing won't fix. Use native version instead.
