Have you installed visual basic runtime 6? Is there a download/demo of this available anywhere showing the same problem?
I'd seen a mention of this and have now downloaded it from MS and installed thus :-wine "/home/aga/Downloads/vbrun60sp5.exe" fixme:setupapi:SetupDefaultQueueCallbackW notification 262144 params 32f9ac,0 err:setupapi:SetupDefaultQueueCallbackW copy error 0 L"C:\windows\temp\IXP000.TMP\OLEAUT32.DLL" -> L"c:\windows\system32\OLEAUT32.DLL" fixme:setupapi:SetupDefaultQueueCallbackW notification 262144 params 32f9ac,0 err:setupapi:SetupDefaultQueueCallbackW copy error 0 L"C:\windows\temp\IXP000.TMP\OLEPRO32.DLL" -> L"c:\windows\system32\OLEPRO32.DLL" fixme:setupapi:SetupDefaultQueueCallbackW notification 262144 params 32f9ac,0 err:setupapi:SetupDefaultQueueCallbackW copy error 0 L"C:\windows\temp\IXP000.TMP\MSVBVM60.DLL" -> L"c:\windows\system32\MSVBVM60.DLL" fixme:ole:DllRegisterServer stub
That looks to me not as it should be? I've already installed oleaut32.dll (all lower-case). olepro32.dll (lower-case) also is present,as is MSVBVM60.DLL.
I tried Legacy again just in case, but it fails as before. With one slight change from what I reported. When it freezes, if I click the close button (top right) I'm asked if I want to terminate. I do, and it's possible to retry without re-installing. On doing this, once, it did terminate itself, but with a seg. fault.
A download of Legacy is available at http://www.legacyfamilytree.com/Download/Legacy5/www1/Legacy5Setup.exe
Thanks Allan

Installed 0.9.57-11.1 with similar results. Tried various combinations xp/2000/98 and oleauto32, with no success.
Out of frustration, I added ole32 and wham, it's all working!!!!!!!!!. Initially I was still set to win2000, which was OK, changed to xp and still all seems fine.
I've not yet carried out exhaustive testing, but everything I have done has worked. So a major breakthrough.

--- Comment #5 from Luke Bratch l_bratch@yahoo.co.uk 2008-03-09 12:28:30 --- Allan, please post in Bugzilla, don't reply to wine-bugs. Email read:
"Hi
Just to confirm....
If I set the library override for Legacy to either builtin or builtin, native, then the problem occurs. Legacy loads OK, but if I immediately close it, top right X, a confirmation dialog box opens and if I confirm to close, then Legacy freezes. I wait for the ....not responding ... box from linux and can then terminate it.
If I set the library override for Legacy to either native or native, builtin, then Legacy seems fine. So, yes, it would seem that there is still a bug in wine
I've attached console log of the failure.
Oh, and to confirm, I'm now on 0.9.57, not as above.
Hope this helps, but let's know if you need more.
Allan"

--- Comment #9 from allan aganderson@ukonline.co.uk 2008-03-11 19:33:32 --- I need to qualify the 'fix' I reported earlier.
While investigating another issue, I removed .wine and started again. Installed Legacy. Override on ole32 (of course, as that was the 'fix') Bu**er bu**er bu**er!! Legacy still freezes on closing its main window (X in top right) or some other windows.!!! Tried all manner of other permutations and, to cut a long story short, eventually installed dcom98, and that did the trick -sort of. Removed override on ole32 and fault returned. Override back on and fault cleared.
So, initially, when I first was trying to get it working, I had tried dcom98, but it didn't do the trick. However, when I later overrode ole32, that did 'fix' the problem.
It appears to me, then that both dcom98 and override ole32 are together needed to get Legacy to be useable. Only minor issues remain.
Does this make sense to anyone? Certainly I'm pretty happy - again.
I would say, too, that oleauto32 override appears to make Legacy much snappier. From 8 seconds to load my file down to 2 secs., and other windows also much faster opening.

After several tries, I now get the rotating ball which after a minute or so reverts to the arrow and doesn't load.
I changed the ole32 and oleaut32 in the 'library' to every combination I could see, but no changes in operation. I tried the dcom98, but that file seems to be for Windows versions prior to Windows XP.
Anyway, I can not get the Legacy to load now at all.
Could you put the precise steps you too to install Legacy. Mayve I could follow those instructions if they are detailed enough for this 'noob'.

Hi Bob
I've never bothered with Legacy 6 as v5 gave me what I needed. However, I'll have a look at it over the next day or two and get back.
I'm on XP and found that dcom98 was definitely needed, so it might be worth trying. However, even without all the configurations I did, v5 always loaded - it just bombed on trying to close any windows or the app.

--- Comment #14 from Fred P. fpsys2004-wine@yahoo.com 2008-06-10 01:50:50 --- On wine 1.0-rc4, Legacy 7.0 installs successfully, but gets the run-time error 445 when closing the Sample.fdb data file: Run-time error: '445': Object doesn't support this action.
Worth noting: Legacy 7.0 doesn't "freeze" as Legacy 5.0 apparently did. Instead, you can exit wine by clicking the [Ok] button on the Run-time error popup dialog box.
I'll attached three files: 1) a list of the steps to download, install, and reproduce the crash in a new wine prefix directory 2) a script containing the shell commands to install and run Legacy 7 3) console log of the full installation and test

Ho Bob, Not exactly Ubuntu, but, yes on Kubuntu Hoary whatsit. Legacy 5, that is. No major issues, just what I've documented here. Also, OK on openSuse 10.3 and 11.0.
Have you tried clearing out .wine, and reloading Legacy?

I probably misunderstood an email I received and decided to try latest version. Now on wine-1.1.9, with new .wine.
Reinstalled Legacy5, which went OK, but on running, its behaviour was as originally reported. Ran winetricks. No change. Added ole32 and oleauto32, but no change. Looked for dcom98, but it doesn't appear.
Reverted to my previous .wine, and Legacy5 working again to the same extent as previously reported (comment 11) Copy/paste (bug 11979) still don't work in some fields.

Same result ( 445 ERROR etc )when installing Legacy v.7.0 in wine 1.1.34
Following link maybe relevant to the issue:
You receive a run-time error when you use msoFileDialogSaveAs constant with FileDialog in Access 2002 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/282335
Which make sense as FileDialog is used to load or create an *.FDB database file.
How does wine implementation differ from windows?
