And this is for an easy to reproduce bug.
huge time effort. Unfortunately, not all bugs are easy to fix, and so there is a lack of activity. In your case, it seems that there may be an easy workaround (setting x to 16-bit), but you've never said if that works or not. How can the bug be fixed if you don't answer the questions asked?

Yes, the workaround works (but it's an ugly workaround, not a bug fix).
