Bug #: 30757 Summary: Dota 2 won't render with d3d9ex Product: Wine Version: 1.5.4 Platform: x86 OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: kelytharun@gmail.com Classification: Unclassified
As title says, if Dota 2 is run with the d3d9ex rendering engine, the game simply won't render at all.
Of course an easy workaround exists, with the -nod3d9ex switch the game can be forced to use a different renderer that works fine under Wine.

--- Comment #1 from Kelytha kelytharun@gmail.com 2012-05-23 13:27:47 CDT --- Does the "trivial" status means that there is no need for any further information, like debug messages in order to get the bug fixed?

No, just that there is an easy workaround.
Terminal output would help, though I suspect the problem will need to be diagnosed locally by someone familiar with d3d.

Here is the terminal output from letting the game run till the menu music starts to play. But no matter how long I let it run, all what happens is spawning a few hundred lines of fixme:d3d9:IDirect3DDevice9ExImpl_PresentEx iface 0x145af0, src_rect (nil), dst_rect (nil), dst_window_override (nil), dirty_region (nil), flags 0 stub!

If your assumption was correct, the problem ought to be fixed in Wine 1.5.8. Please retest.
I have had the same problem with Counter-Strike:Source on Steam. That was indeed fixed by commit 256d43316418a346978834a41b52c4f99456bb3b.
