Bug ID: 51146 Summary: Steam hangs up and starting very slow unless corefonts installed Product: Wine Version: 6.0 Hardware: x86-64 OS: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown Assignee: wine-bugs@winehq.org Reporter: andy86@fastwebnet.it Distribution: ---
Created attachment 70019 --> https://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=70019 wine output with +font +nativefont +timestamp splitted until 1mb compressed
Since a while steam hangs up during the "connecting steam account" phase unless "winetricks corefonts" has been entered.
The difference is immediately visible, without steam starting time is up to two-three minutes, with is up to thirty seconds.
Bug is present in wine 6.0 and 6.8 (and, i Guess, in all versions within the range) so I think this is introduced from an updated by Steam.

Corrigendum: corefonts are not related.
Simply the problem happens randomly and during the tests it happened only when they were not installed.

--- Comment #3 from Brendan Shanks bshanks@codeweavers.com --- On every launch, Steam now randomly picks whether to use UDP or WebSockets to connect to the servers, and WebSockets don't work under Wine for some reason.
I'm looking into why, but currently you can workaround the problem by passing '-udpforce' as a command-line arg to Steam.

Even if this is a custom wine build, the issue occur since 6.9 as far as I remember. It started randomly, through an update of steam I guess...

--- Comment #7 from andy andy86@fastwebnet.it --- Your patch seems fix this partially.
I try start steam several times with patched wine and never boot has ended with connection error but sometime boot has been anyway annoyingly slow.

--- Comment #10 from Olivier F. R. Dierick o.dierick@piezo-forte.be --- Hello,
Issue is still present for me with wine 7.3.
Steam takes more than one minute to connect. With '-udpforce', it takes only a few seconds.
Regards.

Hello,
I have to correct that.
It still happens, but only when connecting from an account that is not already connected (having to enter the password on the login dialog).
After connecting with 'remember password' checked (automatic login), subsequent connections doesn't hang anymore and the workaround '-udpforce' is no longer necessary.
Selecting 'change account' in the Steam client menu resets the automatic login and can be used to test the issue again.
Regards.

--- Comment #15 from Ken Sharp imwellcushtymelike@gmail.com --- Does that mean that Steam no longer uses WebSockets, or that it does use WebSockets and it works now?
