Summary: Morrowind Script Extender (MWSE) fails silently Product: Wine Version: 1.2 Platform: x86 OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: i30817@gmail.com
It loads up fine, and thinks it is attached. However the scripts that need MWSE behave very erroneously, and invariably crash/hang/don't work. The keyring mod duplicates the inventory keyring whenever you reload a savegame. The fleeing fletchers mod hangs the game when you cast a spell The alchemy storage helper mod places duplicate bags whenever you are looking at. etc, basically no mod using MWSE works.
Seems to be related to the Oblivion Script Extender attach bug.
There is no significant output on the console, or on the MWSE log file (from the app).
Only one error in console, seems unrelated since it is sound: err:quartz:ACMWrapper_ProcessSampleData Error sending sample (80040227)

--- Comment #1 from Austin English austinenglish@gmail.com 2010-08-30 13:37:31 CDT --- Try disabling sound in winecfg and/or native quartz.

--- Comment #2 from paulo i30817@gmail.com 2010-08-30 15:55:03 CDT --- The error in console disappears but the plugin errors do not.
There are also a few fixme that i didn't report at first. Doubt they are relevant but: fixme:msacm:acmFormatEnumW Unsupported fdwEnum values 00100000 once in a while
fixme:d3d8:IDirect3DDevice8Impl_ResourceManagerDiscardBytes Byte count ignored. Lots of times.
There is something i didn't notice before. Wnile the plugins don't work correctly (main indication of many is text message spam as soon as you enter ingame) i said that the MWSE executable log file was empty. Not so it runs normally then spams : initialising lists
apparently forever, like it is trying to configure itself, stops, tries again.
I think it might be catching a exception - is there a way to turn on logging off ignored exceptions or should they already be appearing?

--- Comment #3 from paulo i30817@gmail.com 2010-08-30 16:15:01 CDT --- Created an attachment (id=30490) --> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=30490) here is the whole output of "WINEDEBUG=+tid,+seh,+loaddll,+module,+process,+relay; wine MWSE\ Launcher.exe &> LOG.txt"
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=24212
--- Comment #4 from paulo i30817@gmail.com 2010-08-30 16:16:43 CDT --- I attached a output. I played until i froze it due to a plugin interaction with the main game (fire spell). As the Launcher works by process dll injection, i don't have a log for the main morrowind program.

--- Comment #5 from paulo i30817@gmail.com 2010-09-11 02:35:23 CDT --- Appears fixed in wine 1.3.2
I don't know the reason it was fixed. Is a regression test requested?

--- Comment #6 from paulo i30817@gmail.com 2010-09-11 02:37:19 CDT --- The problem is likely the same as the oblivion script extender too. Someone else says it is fixed too, in the respective bug.

--- Comment #8 from paulo i30817@gmail.com 2010-09-14 05:18:44 CDT --- Sorry false report. Actually it seems the symptoms changed, (i was using the duplicate keys on reload with the keyring mod), but the problem remains. It crashes eventually whenever a MWSE mod is enabled and used (for example, activate the keyring mod by dragging it to the avatar when in inventory, save game, reload game -> crash, always for me).
frustating.
I'm changing the status if you don't mind, just to make sure it gets to your attention.

--- Comment #9 from paulo i30817@gmail.com 2010-09-14 05:32:05 CDT --- I tried to reproduce a minimal test case of only morrowind+tribunal+bloodmoon+keyring, but haven't been able to make it crash yet.

--- Comment #10 from paulo i30817@gmail.com 2010-09-14 06:13:56 CDT --- I can confirm however, that the culprit is a MWSE mod (and as it is a popular mod, Keyring, it is probably a problem with MWSE itself, since no windows user has this problem). I have a savegame that crashes just as it loads. If in wrye mash, the morrowind mod manager, i unselect the keyring mod plugin and clean the save game of its references, the game loads correctly.

--- Comment #11 from paulo i30817@gmail.com 2010-10-08 19:44:18 CDT --- One easy way to test this that appears to happen always is to drop the keyring of the keyring mod on the ground. It will dissapear, though the images on the mod download site indicate it should show on the world and be clickable for two options pick up and see keys.

Please open a new bug (and a regression test, since this worked in 1.3.32).
