When trying the new Facebook Connect feature of Spotify (www.spotify.com), the "connect with facebook" never finishes
The terminal shows what seems to be the problem:

Speculation: I'm running Spotify on x86-64 as well. Could it have something to do with that? Has anyone had any success using a 64-bit machine or are the success stories from 32-bit machines?

I've tried installing ie7 with winetricks but that didn't work, and I've tried with a fresh .wine directory but that didn't help.
I just get the facebook login page again and again.

I now get past the login screen but it hangs on the next screen (The permission screen). It seems like clicking the 'Allow' button has no effect.

Have tried more versions of Wine, but none is ablee to connect my Spotify to Facebook. I'm pretty new to Linux, and depend on tips and suggestions from gurus out there. I can see I'm not alone with this problem, and hope the reason will be mapped soon.

According to the support staff att getsatisfaction.com there were some temporary connection problems to facebook that seem to have been resolved now.
FWIW i run Spotify on a 64-bit Ubuntu install (karmic at the time), and never had to use any workarund to connect.
