Colin McRae Rally 3 and 2005 shows Gnome menu bars all the time. The bars are
still visible after switching different resolution.

Setup for regression test is done, but running either of the games gives the
following error:

"Directx9.0c Not installed!"

I have tried different methods: fresh installation (removing ./wine), running
from old ./wine-folder, doing winetricks DX9 installations for both folders,
etc. Still the same.

I have setup Wine exactly as stated in the guide. Is there a special trick to
get DX9 to work with compiled Wine?

You need to run ./configure from the Wine source tree, in the same place
where you perform the regression testing.

I found the problem: my ATI drivers will need re-installation every time when I
boot up my computer. So, after re-installing them I got Wine to run.

I am doing regression test now and following the guides from
http://www.winehq.org/site/docs/winedev-guide/x1348 and
http://wiki.winehq.org/RegressionTesting.

Now I am having a problem again. Every time I give "git bisect bad"-command and
recompile Wine, the following will come up every time:

The merge base 36def4af0ca85a1d0e66b5207056775bcb3b09ff is bad.
This means the bug has been fixed between
36def4af0ca85a1d0e66b5207056775bcb3b09ff and
[30815a50ed6a1b7ede26a1f0685bf687bf56e0ed].

Seems like git doesn't checkout a new version of Wine for me to rebuild. What's
wrong?

You may need to start from a clean Wine checkout or update git.

Please retest with current wine (1.5.31 or later) and provide a terminal log if
the problem still happens.

If you don't, this bug will be abandoned soon.

Demo-version will not run (Wine 1.5.31). On Windows XP compatibility-mode,
nothing happens and Windows 98 compatibility-mode shows the game's own dialog
box stating "An error encountered",

ok so I am facing the exact same problem with _any_ full-screen game I run in
Wine, on the Gnome 3 desktop. System is Ubuntu 13.04 64bit

Affected WIne version is 1.6rc. I also experience the same with CrossOver. I do
not remember seeing this with 1.4. It must have been introduced in the 1.5
cycle

What do you want me to do?

First narrow down:
by using Crossover I can conclude that the offending change was most likely
made in January or February 2013. I do not see the issue with CrossOver 12.1.0,
released Jan 23. I see it with 12.1.2 released beginning of March.

It is impossible for me to compile Wine. The regression test instructions are
out of date and do not work any more. Even my 12+ years of Linux experience
leave many obstacles.

However, meanwhile I found a workaround: by disallowing the window manager to
decorate and control the window in fullscreen mode, the top Gnome 3 panel is
gone! I disable the settings in the wine configuration.

If you have issues with doing regression testing, may I suggest asking help
e.g. on forum or IRC? See http://www.winehq.org/help/

Maybe it could be that you're using a 64 bit system? In this case you might
want to have a look at http://wiki.winehq.org/WineOn64bit

I tried the 64bit guide and even tried compiling in the chroot environment.
It is rather tedious work.

This issue might as well be the fault of GNOME 3.

But since I know a workaround I am fine.

This same issue appeared also to Grand Prix Legends. I have had it since Wine
1.5.31. I have skipped several development releases, so I can not confirm when
the issue appeared with GTL, but at least, on Wine 1.4.0, the issue was gone.
I've been using GNOME 3 during all this time.

Your method worked for GTL, too.
