Bug #: 32464 Summary: HAWKEN launcher crashes after 3-20 seconds Product: Wine Version: 1.5.19 Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: jamesleeon@ileamare.ru Classification: Unclassified
With update to 1.5.19 from 1.5.19 I have problems with HAWKEN launcher. It doesn't show news, time and speed (when download patch/game files). After 3-20 seconds after launch it crashes.
After crush I have this in console: [1216/224044:ERROR:proxy_config_service_win.cc(159)] WinHttpGetIEProxyConfigForCurrentUser failed: 2 fixme:ras:RasEnumConnectionsW (0x1a2ce8,0x462e568,0x3a70004),stub! fixme:ras:RasEnumConnectionsW RAS support is not implemented! Configure program to use LAN connection/winsock instead! --- Comment #2 from James M. Leeon jamesleeon@ileamare.ru 2012-12-18 08:20:12 CST --- Tried downgrade to 1.5.18 and run launcher again / create clear 1.5.18 wineprefix and install Hawken. So, there's problem launcher, not in wine update.

--- Comment #3 from GyB gyebro69@gmail.com 2013-01-05 12:08:14 CST --- If the problem persists with Wine 1.5.21 you should give a try 'winetricks d3dx9_43'. Does that help? Removing regression keyword as comment #2 stated it wasn't due to a Wine update.
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=32464
--- Comment #4 from GyB gyebro69@gmail.com 2013-01-21 12:50:54 CST --- This is a follow-up to my comment #3 as the bug reporter seems to be disappeared..
To reproduce the problem you have to register an account at http://www.playhawken.com/#enlist/ Then you have to download the client application (~18 MB), and start it with HawkenLauncher.exe The launcher appears but the background image is missing, only the login fields are present. After some time (30 secs - 1 minute) the launcher quits silently. In the terminal only some fixmes from winhttp are present. During the short period while the launcher is active, some files are downloaded in ../users/user_name/Local Settings/Application Data/Solid State Networks/Hawken/ directory.
A +loaddll log reveals that the launcher loads d3dx9_43 and d3dcompiler_43.dll. Using a native d3dx9_43 works around the crash, and the background image is shown in the launcher.
Yet, I'm not entirely sure that it is a d3dx issue: starting the launcher with 'WINEDEBUG=warn+heap' and with built-in d3dx9 libraries also acts as a workaround for the crash.

--- Comment #5 from Xpander xpander0@gmail.com 2013-01-30 12:26:33 CST --- launcher crashes when it wants to load its webcontent. it can be worked around with using the awsomium patch that u can find from GuildWars2 tests. no launcher crashes then and webcontent of the launcher is loaded as well.

--- Comment #6 from git tester kdebugs@hotmail.com 2013-02-01 14:39:35 CST --- This is the patch from the Guild Wars bug page Xpander was referring to: http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=36923 Xpander what Wine version are you applying that patch to?! Xpander re-download the latest Hawken installer and try to install again. I suspect an older installer works for you and newer installers do not work for the rest of us.
That Guild Wars patch does not apply cleanly to Wine 1.5.23. Also Wine 1.5.23 does not compile with only the crypt32 part of the patch.
The installer says, "Failed to initialize installer".
An unpatched Wine 1.5.23 as well as previous version of Wine gives this console output: ------- fixme:winhttp:request_query_option unimplemented option 93 fixme:iphlpapi:NotifyAddrChange (Handle 0x32cbbc, overlapped 0xf2b688): stub fixme:winsock:WSALookupServiceBeginW (0x32cc68 0x00000ff0 0x32cca4) Stub! [0201/142749:ERROR:network_change_notifier_win.cc(111)] WSALookupServiceBegin failed with: 8 fixme:winhttp:request_query_option unimplemented option 93 (above line repeats) fixme:iphlpapi:CancelIPChangeNotify (overlapped 0xf2b688): stub -------
Also web content does display properly but only after I installed ie6.
Whether my libraries are set to native or built-in makes no difference to the console output or to the installer.

I don't see much difference with Wine 1.5.26: the launcher quits silently after a short time, unless I start it with WINEDEBUG=warn+heap.

--- Comment #14 from Olivier F. R. Dierick o.dierick@piezo-forte.be --- Hello,
FWIW, the latest Steam version didn't ship/use the launcher anyway.
However, it can still be added to the Steam library through the steamurl API and installed from the steam client.
When launched, the Steam version is stuck at the game client login screen with "LOGIN FAILED. Online Service Unavailable." (error 51C58D8A).
The official servers were shutdown in 2018 but there is a revival fan project at https://hawakening.com/. It involves editing a file to redirect the login server to theirs and registering a free account there. It supposedly allows offline play against bots. I didn't try that.
Regards.
