Console output

The game worked perfectly till version 1.5.10. I tried to do a fresh install on
the latest version, but it crashes anyway.

Yes, it works, i just installed native gdiplus with winetricks and now
synthesia runs well. What determines this crash? What can be done to fix?

FWIW, the interesting bit of the backtrace is

Unhandled exception: page fault on read access to 0x00000034 in 32-bit code
(0x7e7bd9f8).
Backtrace:

I downloaded Synesthesia-0.8.3 and it did not crash when I clicked 'Play'.
I'm using wine-1.5.11-128-g4e2959a

Good to know. Perhaps it has been fixed in that commit. Anyway, i can't do the
regression testing because i'm stuck in compiling wine from source. According
to the configure, X11 32 bit development files are missing, and looks like in
Linux Mint 13 x86_64 (Ubuntu 12.04) there's no way to install them from apt.

I can reproduce the crash on my system, tested with Synthesia-0.8.3 and
wine-1.5.11-128-g4e2959a.
