To replicate: 
* Run SketchUp - screen is garbled, showing the main menu, toolbars and pieces
of the screens of other programs.
* Main menu > Window > Preferences
* Uncheck "Use hardware acceleration". The "Use fast feedback" box is checked
and a MessageBox warns: "SketchUp has checked your computer for compatibility
with Fast Feedback, and can't be sure it will work properly". Hit Ok.
* Uncheck Fast Feedback (not relevant to the outcome)
* Program crashes and a "Send crash report" BugSplat form is shown. Attempt to
send the report fails ("invalid response from server") and a ZIP file is
created (attached).

Attachment 1: output of `WINEDEBUG=fixme+all,warn+all,err+all wine 'C:\Program
Files\Google\Google SketchUp 8\SketchUp.exe'´, timestamped (I made deliberate
pauses between actions so it would show in the log)

Wine 1.3.23
Ubuntu 11.04 (x86)
ATI HD6950 (proprietary driver 11.5)

Temp fix: run regedit, open
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Google\SketchUp6\GLConfig\Display], and change
"HW_OK" to 1.

agebosma, that's the current value (HW_OK=1). I wanted to disable HW
acceleration because I have the "delayed refresh" issue and I want to test
whether the OpenGL drivers have anything to do.

I understand. By stating "temp fix" I meant to say you can change the value
back again to 1 to at least prevent SketchUp from crashing. It does, however,
not fix the fact that it crashes with OpenGL disabled in the first place.

My confirmation remains valid though. In my case it will crash when I disable
OpenGL as well.

Uhm, let me elaborate: with HW_OK=1, I launch SketchUp more-or-less
successfully (the work area is initialized with garbage and I need to zoom
in/out to refresh but otherwise it works). Then I try to disable HW accel as
described in comment #1 and SU crashes when I click [Ok].

If I set HW_OK=0 it refuses to start:
"SketchUp was unable to initialize OpenGL!
Please make sure you have installed the correct drivers for you graphics card.
Error: ChoosePixelFormat failed [Ok]". Then it creates an "Untitled" window,
closes it immediately, and another MessageBox shows some unprintable text like
"▯▯▯▯▯▯▯ (▯▯▯▯▯▯:59)" followed by "An invalid argument was encountered".

I'm guessing that it takes something else to switch to software rendering via
registry.

BTW, I get the same results with Compiz or Metacity (I'm using the Compiz
Fusion Icon to switch between both)

Hi, the same problem here. 
SketchUp starts, menu and panels are visible and seems to be working, but
drawing area is filled with pieces of the screens of other programs or
background image.

OS: PC-BSD 9.0 x64
GPU: nVidia GeForce 9300M G
notebook ASUS M50Vc

On the same machine, it works in Linux Mint 13! (wine 1.4.1, wine 1.5.12) with
only "mouse 1 event behind" bug.

Tried wine versions (with SketchUp 8):
wine 1.4.1 from PC-BSD repository (wine64)
wine-fbsd64-1.5.12
wine-fbsd64-1.5.9
wine-fbsd64-1.4.1
wine-fbsd64-1.4.r6

Tried SketchUp versions (with wine 1.4.1):
8.0.15158
8.0.14346
7.1.6860 and some others including some 6

Tried nVidia drivers:
304.43
295.71
290.10

Tried launching in virtual desktop mode (winecfg)
Tried changing registry - HW_OK=0/1 
Tried enabling/disabling all settings available in winetricks...
Tried upgrading to PC-BSD 9.1 RC1 x64, also x32 version of PC-BSD
Tried changing xconf.org - adding 'Option "NoDRI"'
Tried changing resolution via nvidia-settings from 1440x900 to 1024x768
Tried changing theme in Gnome :)

No luck... I am going to send 1 BTC for the solution :-)

Hello folks,

can someone test if Software OpenGL works on Windows ('HW_OK=0')?

BTW it's not limited to NVIDIA, it will crash for _any_ graphics vendor with hw
accelerated OpenGL disabled (Intel, AMD etc.)
