Summary: Excel 2007 changes .xls modification date on shutdown Product: Wine Version: 1.1.34 Platform: PC OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: minor Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: isakfrants@hotmail.com
Test: Launch Office 2007 Excel and save an empty .xlsx file. Close Excel, right click on the newly created file and choose properties. Observe the modification and access dates of the file. Open the .xlsx file with Excel 2007. Close Excel and look, the dates are the same. Awesome.
Now do the same with a .xls file. Launch Office 2007 Excel and save an empty .xls file. Close Excel, right click on the newly created file and choose properties. Observe the modification and access dates of the file. Open the .xls file with Excel 2007.
It doesn't matter now if you just read the document and then shutdown Excel or if you edit the document but you DON'T save the changes when Excel shuts down. However, when you close Excel the file will get new modification and access dates.
What would have happened: Excel would respect the date of modification when no editing is done in .xls JUST the way it does with .xlsx. This affects only Excel, while Word respects the date with both .doc and .docx and Powerpoint with .ppt and .pptx.
Can anyone else reproduce this?

--- Comment #2 from Isak Frants isakfrants@hotmail.com 2009-12-08 13:37:58 --- Yes, both with SP2 and with no SP at all.
In Windows Excel behaves differently. It actually changes the modification date immediately when I open a .xls file. It then restores the original modification date when shut down. This is different from the Wine behaviour where Excel changes modification date when shut down.

--- Comment #3 from eisa01 eisa01@gmail.com 2010-05-29 12:34:30 --- I managed to reproduce this, but it only modifies the date the first time it is opened after it was saved. On the second opening it stays the same.

--- Comment #5 from Jan Hoogenraad jan-winehq@h-i-s.nl 2010-09-18 02:02:30 CDT --- In Excel 2000, I see a similar problem to the file opening issue:
Opening a file with Excel 2000 changes the date/time stamp. Even if you don't save, the date/time stamp of the file is changed. This is annoying, as you cannot look at the date/time stamp anymore to see a last revision. Under MS-Windows, the date/time stamp of the file is NOT changed on reading a file, only when you save a file.

Is this still an issue in 1.5.31 or higher or is this abandoned ?
