Now, using wine 1.5.29, I got this when trying to install Game using Original
installer:

I've installed the game via Steam, and everything worked fine.

But the game doesn't start at all. Every time I start the game, Steam opens the
dialog with the serial number, and then displays some errors.

Initial error message:
• Unsupported video card detected!
• Nvidia GeForce GT 330

Pressing Ok on the first error dialog prompts another dialog with:
• Failed to initialize the GameStartup Interface!

I've attached the console output. If you need the output of some debug flags,
please let me know.

just install and tried the game, and I got exactly the same issue. Please
confirm.
Using NVivia GTX260 with latest beta 313 proprierary drivers

Steam version, running under Wine 1.7.4 in Ubuntu 13.10 (64-bit)

Crysis 2 Game demo can be downloaded from multiple website. Here is one that
worked for me and didn't require any registration:

I imagine the Demo is the 1.0 version, which got Gold status in the AppDB.

I added VCrun 2005,8,10, with lots of DirectX, and disabled GLSL using
winetricks. This gets the game running for me, but vanilla wine is a no-go.

winetricks d3dx9 vcrun2008

that does the trick, though vcrun2008 only 'properly' installs on a fresh
prefix. Doesn't need to be 32-bit either :D

I've got the same problem with Wine 1.7.8 and Nvidia GeForce GT 770. Even in
clean prefix with just winetricks d3dx9 vcrun2008.

Hello folks,

can't confirm this.

FYI 'Crysis 2' uses 'SolidShield v2' DRM scheme which works fine with Wine
1.7.9

Installation from original DVD (v1.0), media validation and online activation
went fine.
Started some mission/campaign, no visible artifacts (NVIDIA gfx) -> excellent.

This is without any winetricks recipe (= no overrides).

This is harmless - just confirm with 'ok' - and already covered by existing
bugs (dxdiag missing properties).

For the guys with Steam: don't install the game in existing Steam WINEPREFIX
with multiple games already installed -> bug likely invalid.
Many game require different prerequisites and you will mess your prefix up at
some point.

$ wine --version
wine-1.7.9-342-gc638552

Please retest with _recent_ Wine version and make sure you're doing a 'clean'
install!

Maybe the Steam version has some differences to non-Steam version.

I can only confirm/investigate with the retail (non-Steam) version of the game
which works fine here.

A separate issue, unrelated to this bug.
That can be avoided by setting two registry keys.
The information can be usually found in 'installscript.vdf' for the game.

I can't actually verify as I don't own the Steam version of this game but it
should be pretty similar because that's how it works for many Steam games.
