Summary: WINEDEBUG=+d3d_shader changes the way program behaves Product: Wine Version: 1.1.8 Platform: Other OS/Version: other Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: seppo.yli-olli@iki.fi
Mass Effect repeatedly crashes for me after menu. (fbo set) Since there was a bunch of fixme's regarding d3d_shader in the wine log, I thought to see if there was something odd visible with WINEDEBUG=+d3d_shader on. Wine couldn't even start graphical mode with the flag set on, it crashed instantly. This probably shouldn't happen, it seems to me impossible to debug a problem if behaviour changes when debug flags change program behaviour. The latter thing is repeatable too.

--- Comment #1 from Roderick Colenbrander thunderbird2k@gmx.net 2008-11-13 16:16:46 --- This most likely indicates memory corruption.

--- Comment #2 from Seppo Yli-Olli seppo.yli-olli@iki.fi 2008-11-13 16:26:33 --- Since I was unable to attach the log with WINEDEBUG=+d3d_shader (45M original, 1.2M even with bz2 compression and the limit is 1.0M), it's located here http://kapsi.fi/~nanonyme/log2.txt.bz2

--- Comment #3 from Seppo Yli-Olli seppo.yli-olli@iki.fi 2008-11-13 16:28:03 --- Created an attachment (id=17265) --> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=17265) wine 'C:\Program Files\Mass Effect\Binaries\MassEffect.exe"
The end probably is like that due to a forced close (there's no visible graphics after a point).

This most likely indicates memory corruption.
Since I suspect you meant graphics card memory corruption, the card is RadeonHD 3870 (r6xx) with proprietary fglrx driver (Catalyst 8.11).

--- Comment #5 from Seppo Yli-Olli seppo.yli-olli@iki.fi 2008-11-14 10:05:07 --- The mmap patch http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=17197 in http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=13335 seems to remove the different behaviour with WINEDEBUG=+d3d_shader. Since the same patch works, marking as duplicate.
