http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=21487
Summary: hh,exe: Missing icons, problem displaying initial pag of sample CHM-file Product: Wine Version: 1.1.37 Platform: x86 OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: michael.istinger@gmx.at CC: michael.istinger@gmx.at
When displaying the sample CHM file, the "closed book" and "open book" in the tree control on the left side of the window are missing.
The right window complains that "the page cannot be displayed".
I have verified that the file displays ok on Windows XP SP3, so the problem appears to be in my wine setup.
I assume that this may be related to the "err:" messages I receive when running hh.exe.
I will upload the following material:
a) Sample CHM file b) output generated from hh.exe c) sample screenshot showing display on Windows XP SP3.
Is there anything I can do to get hh.exe to display correctly, or is this a genuine bug that needs to be fixed?
All the best Michael

--- Comment #4 from Rosanne DiMesio dimesio@earthlink.net 2010-01-25 18:54:02 --- Is this from a clean wineprefix?
When I open that file with hh.exe in a clean wineprefix I get a lot of fixmes for shdocvw and other IE-related dlls that I don't see in your terminal output. And while the open and closed book icons are missing from the tree on my system, too, the files all display just fine in the right window. This is in 1.1.37.

--- Comment #5 from Michael Istinger michael.istinger@gmx.at 2010-01-25 22:41:05 --- I have the following sotware installed in the WINEPREFIX I am using:
- IE6 (installed via winetricks) - msxml5 (installed via winetricks) - itss.dll (copied over from a Windows XP SP3 system)
Had to load this software when testing some other software.
I hope this explains the extra messages you are seeing in a clean WINEPREFIX.

You are not supposed to file bugs if you have used native dlls. Retest in a clean wineprefix--no winetricks, nothing else installed.

Will do tonight. Sorry, was not aware it was supposed to be done in a clean WINEPREFIX.

Have run the sample wine (hh.exe *.CHM) on a clean WINEPREFIX, and uploaded the generated messages as an attachment.
The message have definitely changed, but the visual effects have remained the same:
- no icons in left side tree - initial page not displayed, compare to screenshot showing same CHM-file displayed in Windows.
Hope that this helps - am trying to play by the rules. :-)

The provided sample .chm file is corrupt! The initial page is not even displayed under WinXP SP3. Please see my attached screen shot.
I guess part of the content is linked to local files which are not actually included in the .chm archive.

--- Comment #12 from wineatic test051102@hotmail.com 2010-10-22 05:56:12 CDT --- I have tested the .chm file under Wine 1.3.5 + Ubuntu 10.04. After opening the file an empty start page is displayed. But when clicking an entry from the index tree to the left, the pages are shown. This is not the case under WinXP. WinXP will always show the "page not found" page.
The page content displayed (Schema: ISTINGER) in Wine 1.3.5 does not show any grahpics. This is bug 23622.
I can confirm that the icons are not visible in the index tree to the left.

Created attachment 40537 [details] Patch to display initial page
It appears that this application uses a default topic "the old way" but then sets the rest of the CHM information the new way. Please try the attached patch.
This patch is now in git (commit e412c8c7b815271f248936e0a07a1fdc0970129c). I am also putting together a patch to give icons to the table of contents.
