Summary: K-Lite Codec Pack 5.40 Media Player Cinema: page fault on write access Product: Wine Version: 1.1.32 Platform: PC OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: gaming4jc2@yahoo.com
Created an attachment (id=24774) --> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=24774) The major bug/crash as it appears when I open a .wav in Media Player Home Cinema
Hey all, just bumped into a new problem. K-Lite Codec Pack 5.40 installed perfectly, but when I go to play .wav files in the included Media Player Home Cinema it has a page fault on write access.
Anyone interested in testing this major bug, you can download it here: http://www.filehippo.com/download_klite_codec_pack/6504/

--- Comment #1 from Rosanne DiMesio dimesio@earthlink.net 2010-03-31 14:36:04 --- I can confirm this, though the bug summary is a bit misleading, as the problem is not with the K-Lite Codec Pack, but with Media Player Classic Home Cinema, regardless of how it's installed. I tested MPC-HC installed with winetricks, and as part of the the Combined Community Codec Pack, with the same results.
Tested in wine-1.1.41-400-g6863290.

please don't paste huge backtraces, attach them instead. You are using an outdated unsupported Wine version which is pointless for testing. Upgrade to newer Wine version, preferably Wine 1.7.x
Still present.
Only 'winetricks -q quartz' needed for playback (tested with h264 1080p .mkv).

The crash is caused by heap corruption. Additionally the app hooks a large number of win32 API using 'detours' library.

I'm choosing this one because it already has various dupes merged in. It's unfortunate that comment #10 messed this one a bit up.

I don't know if this is the same/related bug, but PotPlayer crashes when it loads a video even with native quartz and devenum override. I attached the crash log (PotPlayer crash log in wine 1.7.17).
PotPlayer was installed on new PREFIX with only quartz and devenum (Gecko and Mono are installed in distro) on Linux Mint 16.
Wine1.7 was installed via 'apt-get install -y --install-recommends wine1.7' (recommends are not installed by default on Linux Mint 16). winbind was also installed.

this is an unrelated problem. Your graphics driver might be broken.
If you don't know to fix this, please seek help in Wine user forums (http://forum.winehq.org/) or your distro support channels.

--- Comment #16 from super_man@post.com --- Has there been any improvement related to this? I remember trying recently pot player with pure wine, it worked just fine, but it had the picture flipped upside down. Now I tried MPC player from the url field. I tried with wine-staging this time and the movie I opened worked just fine. Movie was in .mkv format.
But I did notice that it spammed this line a lot. Maybe it needs some silence.

--- Comment #17 from Rosanne DiMesio dimesio@earthlink.net --- I tested a few audio and video files in MPC-HC in 1.9.9.
Most .mpg, .mp4, .avi, and .mkv files open and play, though upside down. The .mkv files I tested were also missing some of the audio (music and sound effect played, but no dialog), which was not an issue with the other containers.
OTOH, all the .wmv files I tested still crashed on opening, with MPC-HC popping up its own crash dialog (when you dismiss it, Wine's crash dialog appears).
One thing to note for testing: if you try to open another video after having played one without actually closing the first video from the File menu, MPC-HC will crash opening the second video.
On the audio side, nothing I tested crashed, but .wma and .wav files hang MPC-HC on opening; .mp3 and .ogg files open and play without problem.
The crash on opening a file seems to be fixed in most cases, and this bug has gotten old and messy. Should we keep this open for the remaining problem with .wmv files, or mark this fixed and open a new bug for that?

This commit may fix some of those crashes (or maybe not):

Yeah, our handling of the rendering window in <quartz/vmr9.c> is problematic. The window and message loop thread continue to run after the VMR object is destroyed, which results in the crash. I don't see an easy way to fix this, because the window and its parent are owned by different threads. Everything I try ends up in a deadlock as we try to send cross-thread messages. This code needs a re-think...
