Bug ID: 37612 Summary: Mount & Blade: Crashes on startup (No compatible Direct3D Device) Product: Wine Version: 1.7.31 Hardware: x86 OS: Mac OS X Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown Assignee: wine-bugs@winehq.org Reporter: m22mail@comcast.net
Mount & Blade: Warband crashes after the intro video with the error popup "Could not find any compatible 3D device".
The game runs in Wine version 1.7.9 however it seems all the latest versions crash with this error. I installed all the DirectX .dlls from winecfg and installed the latest DirectX 9.0 Redistributable, but the crash remains. It seems as though this error happens when a video card does not meet the requirements, however I can confirm my card does meet the requirements, being that it opens in older versions of Wine.

Please run a regression test: http://wiki.winehq.org/RegressionTesting
Since I'm running OSX, the apt-get command was not available. I tried to install git with homebrew but there was an error. After taking a look with "brew doctor" there were 8+ errors that were beyond my scope. Some of them involved updating Mono and XQuartz and others involved unsupported libraries. The regression test is a bit of a pain to set up and it's very difficult to narrow down what exactly stopped "git init" from executing.
Maybe I'm missing something here? Or maybe it's my system?

--- Comment #3 from Ken Sharp imwellcushtymelike@gmail.com --- Please try again in Wine 1.7.48.
If the problem persists then this still needs a regression test.

I'm a little behind and don't have the time to compile a new version, so I tried kronenberg.org's easy bottler. (1.7.37) Still didn't work. I'm aware there are newer versions but I'm just not able to check. If it does work on .48, I'm afraid someone else will have to test that. And if it didn't work, the regression test was a pain to set up for me in the first place :P not to mention I couldn't get it to work. Either way, seems like a VERY rare bug, perhaps it's just on my system. Obviously I found a workaround with 1.7.9 so that will have to do until Kronenberg updates his non-compile versions. (I don't need to run the program anymore so it's not a big deal if the bug isn't fixed) But bugs are bugs, and I understand it needs to be checked but I'm not able to right now, I apologize! D:

I just downloaded the Mount & Blade: Warband demo free from Steam, and immediately after the intro video it crashed with the message:
Error loading postFX shaders: Make sure you have the latest DirectX Runtime Library installed :5:1: Error: Unable to open include file fx_configuration.h Return Code: -2147267259
Strangely, the trial version from https://www.taleworlds.com/en/Games/Warband/Download does not crash, only the Steam demo.
I'm on Arch Linux.

Attaching the terminal output would probably give some more clues but from the error message I'd guess installing native d3dx9 would make you workaround that crash.
Anyway, that seems to be a different issue from the one this bug is about. Matt, can you retest with an up to date Wine version?
