Bug ID: 49238 Summary: Oblivion: No sound/music, and mouse response is mixed up Product: Wine Version: unspecified Hardware: x86 OS: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown Assignee: wine-bugs@winehq.org Reporter: packagemonkey@yahoo.com Distribution: ---
Created attachment 67248 --> https://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=67248 Log using the recommended debug flags
Background: I had Wine and a lot of games working on my previous Gentoo Linux system. I built my latest system on Arch Linux, and am running Wine 5.9.
I just got my sound problems with Wine resolved for the most part (missing lib32-* packages from multilib), but Oblivion is being stubborn. When I start OblivionLauncher.exe, it plays music; but once I select Play (or run Oblivion.exe directly), the game is silent. The only errors I see now (with normal WINEDEBUG) are:
98525.897:0024:err:winediag:MIDIMAP_drvOpen No software synthesizer midi port found, Midi sound output probably won't work. 98525.913:0024:err:gstreamer:gstdecoder_init_gst Failed to query duration. 98531.821:00f8:err:quartz:DSoundRender_SendSampleData 0 98531.821:0024:err:gstreamer:gstdecoder_init_gst Failed to query duration. 98531.986:00f4:err:quartz:DSoundRender_SendSampleData 0
The second problem is that once the game menu becomes visible, the mouse pointer moves *mostly* in the direction opposite from the mouse motion (e.g., dragging down & right toward Exit moves up and to the left). Note that this is NOT the "y-axis inversion", as I always have that selected and it affects only in-game visual panning up and down, not actual mouse pointer action; also, the x-axis is reversed as well. This does not happen in OblivionLauncher or any other game.

--- Comment #1 from Olivier F. R. Dierick o.dierick@piezo-forte.be --- Hello,
Issues in a single application are severity 'normal'. Read more about severity levels descriptions there: https://wiki.winehq.org/Bugs#severity
Mouse issue is bug 49228.
Let's make this bug about sound/music issue only.
Regards.

--- Comment #2 from Michael Hill packagemonkey@yahoo.com --- Oblivion still has no sound under wine-5.10.

--- Comment #3 from Lorenzo Ferrillo lorenzofer@live.it --- Can you check if wine 5.8 has working audio? The audio works for me in Oblivion with that version (still didn't update to avoid the 5.9 mouse issue)
The err on gstreamer and quartz seems normal and harmless, I got them too.

--- Comment #5 from Michael Hill packagemonkey@yahoo.com --- I haven't been able to go back to 5.8, as I'm not sure of the mechanism for doing so under Arch, and I'm concerned about the possibility of breaking config files with incompatible changes. I have checked when newer wine versions have been installed, and so far, up through 5.16, the sound still doesn't work.

--- Comment #6 from Michael Hill packagemonkey@yahoo.com --- My latest check, today, was with wine-5.21. While the menu was running, I decided to check the settings once again. I noticed some of the sliders, including master audio, were all the way to the left. I tried sliding it over, and the menu music became audible. I fixed the rest of the sliders and then loaded my last save, and all the audio was back to normal. I know I checked the audio settings numerous times when the problem first occurred, but I hadn't checked them regularly since then. It seems the problem is resolved now, so please feel free to close this issue. Thank you.
