Summary: K-meleon 1.5.3 installs wrong exe on wine Product: Wine Version: 1.1.23 Platform: PC URL: http://kmeleon.sourceforge.net/download.php OS/Version: Linux Status: NEW Keywords: download, Installer, source Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: austinenglish@gmail.com
Working on Appinstall, I started to add a test for K-Meleon 1.5.3 (1.5.2 crashes on wine). Wrote the test on windows, and ran on wine (windows version set to xp), where it failed pretty early: k-meleon.exe checksum failed. Got d492f8e77b9b6dd90efbb04b3955db4f3e65500e k-meleon.exe, expected 5092d2185645fc23b775a43ee42cec3d48cb82bc k-meleon.exe. Error 3. Test failed.
I reverified the test on windows, where it's fine. Looking through the install logs, I noticed this: --- winlog.txt 2009-06-13 01:28:57.547881037 -0500 +++ winelog.txt 2009-06-13 01:28:12.957017361 -0500 @@ -410,13 +410,14 @@ Output folder: C:\Program Files\K-Meleon Extract: msvcp71.dll Extract: msvcr71.dll -Delete file: k-meleonW9x.exe +Delete file: k-meleon.exe +Rename: k-meleonW9x.exe->k-meleon.exe Created uninstaller: C:\Program Files\K-Meleon\uninstall.exe Delete file: C:\Program Files\K-Meleon\profile.ini Execute: "C:\Program Files\K-Meleon\SetDefault.exe" /S
On wine, apparently somehow K-meleon is detecting wine as Win9x, and installs an exe for that.
Curiously, copying the xp exe from my windows install to wine (the rest of the files are the same), bug 17524 reappears.

--- Comment #1 from Alain Aupeix jujuland.46@wanadoo.fr 2009-09-20 16:03:47 --- As I said there is a few month in these pages, to use K-Meleon under wine you must use the w9x version. It's a known problem, and I think it doesn't matter with the crashes that will occurs after.
I'm the K-Meleon setup maintener, and I have made a modification of it to install the good exe file. I don't know if this setup version is officially used, but, for bypass this lack (if exists) after installing the setup, you can use 7z to extract the w9x version, and rename it as said in your post.
All the bug I send here have been rejected. Probably because I'm a linux and wine beginner, and I don't give the good info.
But, I don't understand how to set the command line to have correct crash logs to help debugging. If you can help ...
I must say, that the crashes now always give a wine box to alert instead of the wine version I used before. The crashes are less than before, but there are some crashes yet.

Which exe are you installing? And when have you made these modifications? Were they present in K-Meleon 1.5.3 ?

--- Comment #3 from Alain Aupeix jujuland.46@wanadoo.fr 2009-09-21 02:09:02 --- The setup version (v1.3.5) where I change the exe has been written on January 2009. K-Meleon 1.5.3 setup (April 2009) uses it.
This version installs the w9x version instead of the standard version.
I think that v1.3.4 version does the same, but not the same way, and perhaps incorrectly.
It's a known thing that the standard version crashes under wine. And when you replace the version used under Linux by the version used under XP, it's normal and obvious that it crashes, and that you encounter the initial bug described.
I'm always aware of a syntax to activate windebug :-)
