Bug ID: 47099 Summary: [RFE Staging] Create EXT4 case-insensetive wineprefix on Linux 5.2 Product: Wine Version: unspecified Hardware: x86-64 OS: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown Assignee: wine-bugs@winehq.org Reporter: timofeevsv1989@gmail.com Distribution: ---
Case-sensetivity creates many problems on wineprefixes.
Linux 5.2 can create case-insensetive empty folders with flag +F
Please add this option to staging

--- Comment #1 from Nikolay Sivov bunglehead@gmail.com --- What kind of problems do you see?
https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=47099
--- Comment #2 from Timofeev Svyatoslav timofeevsv1989@gmail.com --- I should use "wine explorer" every time, when i want to merge "FolderName" with "foldername".
When I using regular linux file manager copying "FolderName" with "foldername" creates two different folders.
So if wine-staging will create prefixes with +F - this problem completely gone.

Why are you requesting this feature for Staging specifically?
Because Staging is a bleeding-edge patchset with bunch of fixes.
Regular apstream wine more conservative.

Yeah, that's not really how it works.
I'm moving this to the Wine product. If and when the anticipated patches land in the Linux kernel, and if and when someone does write patches in Wine to take advantage of them, it might land in Staging first, or it might go directly upstream, depending on the disposition of the author and of the Wine maintainers.
I'll leave the arguments about the ideal arrangement of Staging to someone else.

When I using regular linux file manager copying "FolderName" with "foldername" creates two different folders.
Yeah, because wine is not windows. It works when you do it properly with native tools.
I honestly fail to see how this would help a lot, AFAIK the change only is for ext4, and only for very recent linux kernels. Wouldn't this just make wine complexer while adding confusion for endusers?

60 lines in loader code will hurt anyone?.. - NO.

--- Comment #8 from Gabriel Ivăncescu gabrielopcode@gmail.com --- I'll implement this feature, which is also nice for performance reasons (the case-insensitive lookup wine does is very slow since it has to enumerate). I sent patches to the mailing list for review, though I'm sure they might need changes :-)
BTW a "somewhat" related bug is: https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=46203
But that one needs a different fix to be use-able even on dirs without this attr (unfortunately my prior patch for it wasn't reviewed yet).
