Summary: Strong Bad Episode 5 crashes at intro movie without native d3dx9_36 Product: Wine Version: 1.3.8 Platform: x86 OS/Version: Linux Status: NEW Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: directx-d3dx9 AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: dank@kegel.com CC: wine-bugs@winehq.org
To reproduce:
work around all-white-login-screen bug by installing ie6. When you get the "ActiveX control" warning; say Yes. Click on the 'No thanks, just take me to the demo' button on the lower right. It then shows the second launcher screen, the one that is supposed to have the nice animation bringing up the "play now" button. This animation doesn't work, but you can still click where the button should be.
At this point it should show the intro movie, but no video is shown, and the game crashes after a few notes of music.
winetricks d3dx9_36 works around the problem.
The log shows a few calls to d3dx9_36.D3DXMatrixTransformation, a few calls to d3dx9_36.D3DXMatrixMultiply, and then
Unhandled exception: page fault on read access to 0x00000000 in 32-bit code (0x00672f70). Backtrace: =>0 0x00672f70 in homestar105 (+0x272f70) (0x01b8f070)

--- Comment #1 from GyB gyebro69@gmail.com 2012-02-26 03:23:56 CST --- Still present in Wine-1.4-rc5. Tested with the full version of the game.
I get these before the crash occurs:
fixme:d3dx:D3DXGetImageInfoFromFileInMemory File type DDS is not supported yet
Native d3dx9_36.dll is a workaround.

--- Comment #2 from Józef Kucia joseph.kucia@gmail.com 2012-05-19 13:29:23 CDT --- Login screen seems to look fine without installing ie6. Also, it starts with builtin d3dx9 now, but it needs HLSL compiler (winetricks d3dcompiler_43).

--- Comment #3 from Dan Kegel dank@kegel.com 2013-06-09 19:09:16 CDT --- Fixed in 1.6-rc1... the d3dcompiler_43 problem is bug 33769.
