Bug ID: 40602 Summary: enhancement request for phillips wowvx support for dx7 dx8 dx9 & directdraw 3d $1000 donation reward for success. Product: Wine Version: unspecified Hardware: x86 OS: Windows Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: enhancement Priority: P2 Component: directx-d3d Assignee: wine-bugs@winehq.org Reporter: ironhell@hotmail.com
Hi, I'm submitting an enhancement request for wined3d to support the phillips\dimenco wowvx monitors. These are autostereoscvopic screens that will replace glasses based monitors in the near future.
I'm offering a thousand dollar donation to the wine project to the person\volunteer which can implement working support for the DX versions listed in the summary. Those are dx7 8 9 and directdraw 3d, with emphasis on dx7 and 8.

--- Comment #1 from Henri Verbeet hverbeet@gmail.com --- The hardest part is probably going to be finding someone with the hardware in question. Do you have one of these? How does it work in the general case?
https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=40602
--- Comment #2 from ironhell@hotmail.com --- hi Henri, it would be nearly impossible to find someone who still has one, but I have one so alls good;) id be willing to test any code made.
Basically the tech uses a technique called 2d plus depth, basically the code takes a certain resolution (in my case 1600x1200), and splits it into 2 frames, side by side, one the regular 2d image on the left, the second a depthmap that is made up of shades of grey. the depthmap is used to judge the 3d separation and the monitor detects this and muxes the 2 images into a single one at half the regular resolution (800x600) .
For the effect to work, it has to be at a certain res, the res differs from the aspect ratio of the monitor (philips made a 20 inch 4:3 (mine), a 42 inch 16:9 and a 52 inch 16:9) Dimenco (the techs current user) has further made additional types.
The graphics engine openscenegraph has wowvx support, looking at that open source would pretty much reveal how its used. the code in that engine works on my screen.

hope it helps.

--- Comment #4 from Jose Negrete untouchablebluesky@gmail.com --- I don't know too many that have this monitor. So If you like you can try my shader made for reshade. I would like to know if it will work with your WOWvX Monitor.
But, You will need to use windows to get it working windows 7+.
https://reshade.me/forum/shader-suggestions/2812-wowvx-support#19973
I would like to know if the header code works. Since not many have the monitor I am looking for any one who does.
I go By BlueSkyKnight on that forums.

--- Comment #5 from ironhell@hotmail.com --- hi, Jose, so far, I think you only know one guy that has one, Im wowvx from the reshade forums :) I requested the shader.
FYI, the wowvx tech is still being developed, but not by Philips, but a company that spun off of them, Dimenco. They have their own dlls for dx9 and ogl, but theyre limited, and the dx9 one cant get to work with any dx9 games Ive tried:( I think its mostly for 3d cad programs and signage use, I might be the only gamer that uses it. Ive had the monitor for 6 years now, bought from a electronics clearinghouse online. I got it for a couple hundred, but the things used to cost thousands when made, so probably not alot of people got em now, mostly 3d media creators.
Dimenco has a site here : www.Dimenco.eu, they recently had a kickstarter to bring this amazing tech to mainstream audieneces but it failed unfortunately:( Perhaps they will try again.
I think a 4 k TV split into 4 views would provide a nice 1080p glasses free experience using this tech. Im hoping one day, Philips vision of 2d plus depth viewing over TV might become a reality.

--- Comment #6 from Jose Negrete untouchablebluesky@gmail.com --- Damn, and I was hoping for chunk of that 1000usd bounty. LoL. BTW, Thank you for the donation.
Ya, I contacted Dimenco.eu. I hope they get back to me about there tvs. I, Asked them about. WOWvx and if still being used on there tvs. Since It's curiosity of mine.
I also told them about my shader so they can do some testing if they like. But, Ya at 4k it will really help with the image.
Also since I am interested in the tech. I asked other question as well. I guess now they can demo Doom 2016 on there monitors in 3D. I hope investors in that company see that and help move things along.

--- Comment #7 from ironhell@hotmail.com --- The Dimenco monitors from my experience with their dlls, is essentially the same, but with a larger size and higher resolution. They don't call the tech "wowvx" anymore though, its now called "@depth".
They are of the opinion that the wowvx tech is outdated, and they don't seem to be aware that it works with their dlls, even though Ive told them it does. They also don't seem to care about gaming as an application of the tech, but perhaps our little collaboration here could convince them otherwise.
Ive been trying to get them interested in making new dlls for newer games for a couple years with no success, including end user agreements for reduced rate for thei existing plugins.
They're privately held, and thus no public shareholders, Id have invested in em 5 or so years ago if they were:)
The wowvx shader is good, but compatibility is short of what my bounty wanted. however, with deges dgvoodoo, and the reshade project, most games should be playable. I can give you $300 of it, though Id ask that I be listed in the shader as a collaborator.

--- Comment #8 from Jose Negrete untouchablebluesky@gmail.com --- Ya I need to add you as a collaborator any ways even if you didn't donate. Since you gave me the information need to make that shader.
I will list your Name and email with links to both sites.
I just been out all day. Have not got around to it. I also Need to leave Notes in the code for the section where I did the Trigger header. Since I ended up doing it in different then was listed anywhere.
I will update the shader. Right Now. Also if you need anything changed you can ask me at any time.
I also been looking around for this monitor. But, I only seen it for sale at a crazy price. I need to stock eBay for it.

--- Comment #9 from ironhell@hotmail.com --- Hi, thanks, though email address isn't necessary, just my name is fine, it should have appeared on my paypal donation.
As for the monitor, Id say you have the best chance at finding the larger 42 inch, but I havent seen one in years. when I did find one, it was over a grand.
try asking some of the partner sites that philips contracted with over the years, some might have an old one kicking around. I got mine from a reseller on ebay, and they occasionally show up there. with the shader, they are now quite useful gaming tvs.

--- Comment #10 from Jose Negrete untouchablebluesky@gmail.com --- Ok I removed your email from the shader. I also updated the Depth map for Fallout 4.
I will try asking around because, I can't find one on ebay or amazon.
