Google Pinyin is the only IME that is halfway decent on any platform. Having Google Pinyin working on Linux would make Linux much more useful to the huge number of Chinese speakers in the world -- particularly as many (in my circles anyway) now exclusively use Google Pinyin, and need it to be available on computers they use. Maybe this is just an enhancement for the wine project, but it bears a lot of importance for the global expansion of Free software usage in general, due to the huge number of Chinese speakers in the world and the speed at which they are embracing technology.
