Summary: tablet pressure sensibility problem Product: Wine Version: 0.9.52. Platform: PC OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: major Priority: P2 Component: wine-x11driver AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: bozo_ymhf@yahoo.fr
Created an attachment (id=9873) --> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=9873) this Xorg configuration works well with Gimp
Hello,
I'd like to inform you about a problem concerning the pressure sensibility of my tablet.
I assigned this message to "wine-x11driver" without knowing if it's correct. (you can reassign it)
This pressure sensibility used to work with older versions of wine, it's a kind of regression.
I use Wine to run ArtRage since a few months, but since my last Linux upgrade (Xorg + Wine upgrades), ONLY WINE does not recognize my Wacom tablet anymore, contrary to other Linux programs.
Indeed, since then, I had to activate the "extended Input Devices" in software like "Gimp", to make it work. At least, as it works really well with "The Gimp", one can assume that my xorg configuration is correct.
I hope there might be a way to activate the "inputDevice" in Wine, in the same way as in "Gimp".
I really want to use my tablet again with Wine.
System details: Linux Ubuntu 7.10 (Kernel 2.6.22-14 + Xorg 1.3) Wine from version 0.9.46 to 0.9.52 (same problem for each version) Tablet WACOM Graphire4 A6
I attach my Xorg.conf file to this message, to let you see that it's well configured.

--- Comment #2 from Dan Kegel dank@kegel.com 2007-12-29 11:30:26 --- Can you check to see if removing ~/.wine and reinstalling ArtRage with wine-0.9.52 helps?
If that doesn't fix it, can you check to see if this affects Photoshop, too? Any of the trial versions linked to from http://wiki.winehq.org/AdobePhotoshop will do for the test, they all support pressure sensitivity well for me.

--- Comment #3 from Yohan bozo_ymhf@yahoo.fr 2007-12-29 19:46:33 --- ok, I tried, but without any result. Here is the chronology of my tests.
1- I removed the ~/.wine directory 2- I launched ArtRage to see, Wine rebuild the .wine directory => still no pressure sensibility 3- I installed Photoshop 7, and tried, no pressure sensibility (although I really configured "pen pressure" in "Brushes/shape dynamics") 4- I installed Photoshop CS2 (to see) nothing more. 5- I unsinstalled the whole WINE application (using synaptics) 6- I rebooted the PC (to be sure) 7- I tested Gimp to be sure that my tablet works, Gimp is still all right, perfect pressure detection. 8- I installed the latest Wine version 0.9.52 using apt-get install wine 9- I installed Photoshop 7, and tried, but no pressure sensibility. 10- I installed open canvas, but no pressure ...
I forgot to be precise in my words, when I say "no pressure sensibility", it means "the cursor acts like a simple mouse, only two levels are detected on and off, instead of multiple pressure nuances".
One last thing, if you want to test ArtRage yourself, you'll have to import a DLL "Gdiplus.dll" in your wine DLL directories. Of course it's not connected to the Photoshop problem. Let's resolve the photoshop problem first.
I appreciate your help.

--- Comment #4 from Jeremy White jwhite@codeweavers.com 2007-12-30 09:21:55 --- Could you pull a +wintab32 log and attach it to this bug?
Make certain it really is 0.9.52; there were some fixes that went in literally days ago, and without those fixes, I would expect it to be broken.
Cheers,
Jeremy

Could you attach the results of: xdpyinfo -ext XInputExtension
Also, if you can build from source, if you could add in the patch I'm about to attach to the bug, and report the +wintab32 that results, I'd appreciate it.

About your patch, I will uninstall Wine and install "wine-dev" instead and then I will try to execute your "script"...
I hope this will work.

Ok I posted the output of xdpyinfo.
Thanks. Sadly, I didn't learn anything; nothing unusual there.

It shouldn't be a script; you need to apply my patch with patch -p1 < put-filename-here and then rebuild Wine, and then get another +wintab32 log.
Cheers,
Jeremy

--- Comment #12 from Yohan bozo_ymhf@yahoo.fr 2008-01-03 09:51:23 --- Hello,
First, I wish you an happy new year 2008.
Then, I'd like to thank you all, because IT'S WORKING AGAIN !!!!!
I compiled Wine from source, AND IT WORKS !!!
I'm so sorry to have annoyed you with that problem, in fact the problem probably came from ".DEB" install packages.
Now that I know, I will compile each update myself ;-)
Maybe you could inform the guy who's in charge with the "deb" install files. (without blaming him of course)
Thank you for all your work on Wine, (I wish I had the time to help you in your development, but I don't have much time for myself neither)
Yohan

--- Comment #13 from Dan Kegel dank@kegel.com 2008-01-03 12:26:23 --- Where did you download the .deb's?http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=10944

--- Comment #14 from Yohan bozo_ymhf@yahoo.fr 2008-01-03 13:02:22 --- I might have been wrong about your "deb" files.
In fact, my former Wine install resulted from 2 different places: 1- When my system was Ubuntu "Feisty", Wine version came from the official Ubuntu servers (for Feisty). 2- Then I did a "big" update to Ubuntu 7.10 "Gutsy", and Wine has been updated from Ubuntu servers (for Gutsy this time)--> the problem appeared, if I remember correctly. 3- Then I added the WINE-HQ server "http://wine.budgetdedicated.com/apt" to the Synaptic software to update Wine, as explained on the wineHQ website, hoping it would resolve le problem, in vain.
Then I think it might be due to the Ubuntu update... Maybe the deb file built by the Ubuntu guys was too specific ?
It's a bit complicated for me. In fact I will avoid doing more tests, as it works now for me :-) I won't take the risk to break it again !
Then I can paint again !
Yohan

--- Comment #15 from Dmitry Timoshkov dmitry@codeweavers.com 2008-01-03 21:32:55 --- It may be worth to ask the deb creators whether they have SONAME_LIBXI defined in config.h. Sounds like they don't have a libXi.so symlink.
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=10944
--- Comment #16 from Yohan bozo_ymhf@yahoo.fr 2008-01-04 03:03:49 --- I can't tell, sorry. Tell me if you want me to check somewhere in my files (but now that it works, the error might have disappeared).
If I may add a comment, I wasn't the only one to have this bug on Wine, after the Ubuntu update : here is a forum (from ArtRage website) where I posted my first "help" messages http://www2.ambientdesign.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=9291 It seems that 3 other guys experienced the same bug (except me = Bozo). Other people might have experienced the same bug without expressing themselves.
I think the only way to replay the bug is to reinstall Ubuntu Feisty, then replay the update to Gutsy and see what lacks in Wine ! ok, it needs a dedicated machine :-) not so easy.
