Bug ID: 41778 Summary: OpenGL using games don't run with nVidia card. Product: Wine Version: 1.9.23 Hardware: x86-64 OS: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: blocker Priority: P2 Component: opengl Assignee: wine-bugs@winehq.org Reporter: diwulefi@nincsmail.com Distribution: ---
Created attachment 56214 --> https://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=56214 error log
Since i changed my card from ATi to nVidia, all of the games using OpenGL dies at the startup.
I'm using an nVidia GT730 with the latest official drivers (375.20), but older drivers did not help too.
I'm using the latest WINE (1.9.23), but downgrading to the Debian's default 1.6 or backport's 1.8 did not help too.
My OS is a Debian 8 on AMD64 arch.
I attach two logs from two games.

--- Comment #2 from Béla Gyebrószki gyebro69@gmail.com --- I have 2 comments which may help you run those two games (Unreal, Kingpin).
1. if you want to play Unreal 1 using the OpenGL renderer, you need to patch the game to version 227 which is available: http://www.oldunreal.com/downloads.html
With game version 226f I received the same error on start as you:
err:seh:raise_exception Exception frame is not in stack limits => unable to dispatch exception.
2. Kingpin: Life of Crime is affected by bug #25362. You need to start the game like this: __GL_ExtensionStringVersion=17700 wine kingpin.exe
wine-1.9.23-115-g0e8bb75 OpenGL vendor string: NVIDIA Corporation OpenGL renderer string: GeForce GT 730/PCIe/SSE2 OpenGL core profile version string: 4.5.0 NVIDIA 375.20

--- Comment #3 from Austin English austinenglish@gmail.com --- Why are you running as root?
Are you running from a windows partition? That's not supported.

Did you install the 32 bit version of your driver?
No, i installed the 64-bit version, but it offered 32-bit compatibility packages and i installed those.

Kingpin works, köszi. :)
As for Unreal, are you sure, that this unofficial patch is safe and clean?
Also, these two games worked without these workarounds, when i used an ATi card. Is it an nVidia bug?

No, it's an ext3 partition.

Although it is unofficial it is considered safe. It contains bugfixes and improvements including an improved OpenGL subsystem. As for why previous versions' OpenGL renderer don't work on Nvidia: it could be either a bug in Wine or the OpenGL renderer shipped with the original version is simply broken on Nvidia hardware. Btw. I get the same crash with nouveau/mesa when starting Unreal Gold (v226).

Okay, i installed it and Unreal works now, altough it was incompatible with my old User.ini file, so i have to copy stuff by hand from it.
Köszi szépen!

--- Comment #9 from winetest@luukku.com --- Both bugs are solved now, but nothing got really fixed in wine.
https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=41778
--- Comment #10 from Bruno Jesus 00cpxxx@gmail.com --- Both problems seem to be game problems and they can be solved with information mentioned in comment 2, so IMO this bug can be closed as notourbug/invalid/abandoned.
