Summary: Cannot disable cursor blinking in the wine GUI Product: Wine Version: 0.9.36. Platform: Other OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: enhancement Priority: P2 Component: test AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: zhoujiafan@gmail.com
I have updated the wine to wine-0.9.36 in my Linux Fedora Core5. Currently the cursor is always blinking. For example, the editplus running in wine.
I tried to edit the wine registry as follows:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER -> CONTROL PANEL -> Desktop -> CursorBlinkRate = -1
And this does not stop the blinking cursor!!!

--- Comment #2 from Juan Lang juan_lang@yahoo.com 2007-10-23 23:07:15 --- I don't think this is a wine bug. I also have FC6, and tried disabling the blinking through System -> Preferences -> Keyboard - no effect.

--- Comment #3 from Jiafan Zhou zhoujiafan@gmail.com 2007-10-24 11:02:01 --- FYI, the state of the cursor blinking is not controlled by FC5 keyboard in System -> Preferences. For gnome and KDE GUI there are own means to disable cursor respectively. But I don't think wine uses any these as wine GUI component, does it?
I am really a newbie to Linux GUI development, so I am not sure which GUI component is used for wine. So if this bug cannot be fixed, I am happy likewise.

--- Comment #4 from Juan Lang juan_lang@yahoo.com 2007-11-02 12:19:02 --- No, you're right, this has nothing to do with system preferences. Question for you: does setting the CursorBlinkRate to -1 disable blinking on Windows?

--- Comment #5 from Juan Lang juan_lang@yahoo.com 2007-11-02 12:22:53 --- Also, could you try editing ~/.wine/drive_c/windows/win.ini , and adding a line CursorBlinkRate=-1 line to the [windows] section?

--- Comment #6 from Juan Lang juan_lang@yahoo.com 2007-11-02 12:26:24 --- By the way, this web page confirms that it should be disabled via the registry value you suggest: http://www.gatorspit.com/tips/disable-blinking-cursor.html

Still present. It works if win.ini is edited, however.

--- Comment #11 from Juan Lang juan_lang@yahoo.com 2008-08-12 12:37:57 --- Yep. I think the patch was rejected because the right way to fix this is through a .ini file mapping to the registry, but that's unimplemented.

--- Comment #12 from Dmitry Timoshkov dmitry@codeweavers.com 2008-08-13 10:27:37 --- Yes, win.ini,CursorBlinkRate needs to be set. But that's unrelated to an original problem, when regardless of CursorBlinkRate value cursor blinking was not impossible to disable.

Is this still an issue in wine version 1.6-rc3 or higher or is this to be closed as abandoned ?
