As I said the problem does not appear with the latest patch applied (I think this is 1.05). We (me and my friends) played through the entire game in some gaming session at bit ago. Back then I was hosting the server on my gentoo box.
There was no problem with network stability. At least nothing compared to the chaos when we tried TSE.
I can retest this with an unpatched TSE copy and aun unpatched TFE copy (something I didn't test back then, since the patched 1.05 version worked out of the box).
