Summary: Need for speed Most wanted controls error Product: Wine Version: 1.2-rc7 Platform: x86 OS/Version: other Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: critical Priority: P1 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: s_paul1408@yahoo.com
My OS is ubuntu 10.04. With wine rc2 nfs most wanted+patch 1.3+crack wouldn't start, but when i tested rc7 it worked almost perfect except a control bug: it's as if the "left arrow" is pressed. It keeps turning left, even after i changed the controls. The same problem is with gta vice city and gta san andreas, except it's the "down arrow".

Can't confirm. I played an hour under wine-1.3.23 and no such problem. Worked perfectly :)

--- Comment #9 from Diego Viola diego.viola@gmail.com 2011-09-29 01:41:23 CDT --- After doing some research and googling, I think I found the issue.
Apparently the kernel/udev sees my Microsoft keyboard as: /dev/input/js0 -- it sees the Microsoft keyboard as a joystick, and this is obviously wrong.
After deleting /dev/input/js0 everything is fine, the problem with arrow/controls disappear.
I found the answer to this problem in this ML thread:
http://www.winehq.org/pipermail/wine-users/2009-June/055473.html
The model of my Microsoft keyboard is:
Microsoft Wireless MultiMedia 1.1 Model: 1014
dmesg shows this:
[ 1483.596560] usb 5-2: USB disconnect, device number 11 [ 1485.073202] usb 5-2: new low speed USB device number 12 using uhci_hcd [ 1485.265926] input: Microsoft Microsoft Wireless Optical Desktop\xffffffc2\xffffffae\xffffffae 2.10 as /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1d.3/usb5/5-2/5-2:1.0/input/input19 [ 1485.265991] microsoft 0003:045E:009D.0010: input,hidraw0: USB HID v1.11 Keyboard [Microsoft Microsoft Wireless Optical Desktop\xffffffc2\xffffffae\xffffffae 2.10] on usb-0000:00:1d.3-2/input0 [ 1485.355823] input: Microsoft Microsoft Wireless Optical Desktop\xffffffc2\xffffffae\xffffffae 2.10 as /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1d.3/usb5/5-2/5-2:1.1/input/input20 [ 1485.355961] microsoft 0003:045E:009D.0011: input,hidraw1: USB HID v1.11 Mouse [Microsoft Microsoft Wireless Optical Desktop\xffffffc2\xffffffae\xffffffae 2.10] on usb-0000:00:1d.3-2/input1
I don't understand why the kernel or udev is seeing this keyboard as a joystick... weird. Any ideas?

--- Comment #10 from Diego Viola diego.viola@gmail.com 2011-09-29 01:43:30 CDT --- Here's more info of the /dev/input/ directory (with Microsoft keyboard):
[root@myhost ~]# ls -l /dev/input/ total 0 drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 140 Sep 29 02:42 by-id drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 120 Sep 29 02:42 by-path crw-r----- 1 root root 13, 64 Sep 29 02:42 event0 crw-r----- 1 root root 13, 65 Sep 29 02:42 event1 crw-r----- 1 root root 13, 66 Sep 29 02:15 event2 crw-r----- 1 root root 13, 67 Sep 29 02:15 event3 crw-r----- 1 root root 13, 68 Sep 29 02:15 event4 crw-r----- 1 root root 13, 69 Sep 29 02:15 event5 crw-r--r-- 1 root root 13, 0 Sep 29 02:42 js0 crw-r----- 1 root root 13, 63 Sep 29 02:15 mice crw-r----- 1 root root 13, 32 Sep 29 02:42 mouse0 [root@myhost ~]#
As you can see js0 is there... but why it gets detected as a joystick? This is the problem, it's clearly NOT a Wine issue! because it works great with a different keyboard. With different keyboard I don't get this 'js0'.

This is the output I see when I connect the DR.HANK keyboard, which doesn't have this problem.

--- Comment #13 from Diego Viola diego.viola@gmail.com 2011-09-29 01:49:12 CDT --- Anyway, if you have this problem just delete /dev/input/js0, which will be recreated when you reconnect the keyboard, or change the udev rules? or fix this issue in another way... Then this problem with wine should go away!
It's clearly NOT a wine issue, but a kernel/udev/rule issue?

Can't confirm. I played an hour under wine-1.3.23 and no such problem. Worked perfectly :)
This is NOT a wine problem, it's a problem with some keyboard, e.g. the Microsoft keyboard, it gets detected as a joystick device (/dev/input/js0). You have a different keyboard and you don't have this device node, that's why it works fine for you. But some keyboards (apparently Microsoft ones) are being detected as /dev/input/js0, which is wrong and causes this problem.

Fill a bug report for Xorg guys.
How is this a problem with Xorg? As I said, the keyboard gets detected as a JOYSTICK device, when I reconnect the keyboard I get a /dev/input/js0 even when I don't have X running AT ALL.
Isn't this more of a kernel/udev issue?

Or report it to your distribution, they can sort out who's bug it is.
