Summary: TF2 Directx 8 Required Product: Wine Version: 0.9.48. Platform: PC OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P3 Component: wine-directx AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: Snub_Fighter@snubfighter.com
After getting to the load screen it crashes with an error "This game requires directx 8 to run properly" I've gone into CS:S and it showed it starting with dx6 but I force it to 8.1 and everything was fine. However even trying to force TF2 to 8.1 did not work. Switching to a previous version of wine just causes TF2 to crash.

--- Comment #3 from Stefan Dösinger stefandoesinger@gmx.at 2007-11-03 18:12:20 --- Pixel shaders are a dx8 feature, so disabling it will obviously complain about that. Please change the configuration.

still errors with pixel shader enabled, I'm gonna try compiling from source, I did that a couple of ubuntu installs back before the package was out and I was able to run portals at the time, so I'm willing to bet it might get tf2 to do that same. I haven't tried portals with this install of ubuntu I'm positive it will complain the same as tf2 though.

--- Comment #6 from Vitaliy Margolen vitaliy@kievinfo.com 2007-11-03 18:29:01 --- What errors are you talking about? Works perfectly here with nVIdia.
For your disabled ati card that DOES NOT support glsl, so unless you get better hardware or write better drivers for it, this bug is invalid.

Closing invalid.

--- Comment #8 from Stefan Dösinger stefandoesinger@gmx.at 2007-11-03 18:44:20 --- GLSL should not be needed for dxlevel 80, so fglrx has everything to support that. In the past I have run HL2 in dxlevel 80/81 on an ATI card, so this bug is not necessarily a driver fault or misconfiguration.

--- Comment #9 from Toby Brommerich Snub_Fighter@snubfighter.com 2007-11-03 18:48:50 --- Yeah, Im gonna compile from source and I'll post back if that fixes it. Even if it was a hardware issue the point of reporting bugs is to get them fixed for everyone for any hardware.

--- Comment #10 from Stefan Dösinger stefandoesinger@gmx.at 2007-11-03 19:47:01 --- It doesn't complain about dxlevel on my X1600 card, fglrx 4.42.3. It starts up fine.

--- Comment #11 from Toby Brommerich Snub_Fighter@snubfighter.com 2007-11-04 00:02:01 --- Well after compiling it and installing TF2 starts up very well and stable so either something is missing in the pre-package that my system needed or something from the compiling over wrote something old that may have been overlooked by the pre-package. I can't say for sure. Might require further looking into but as for me its resolved at this point.

--- Comment #12 from Dan Kegel dank@kegel.com 2008-02-12 00:06:51 --- All bugs in state FIXED should be closed each time we do a release to mark the fact that the fix is now released. If the bug is somehow not really fixed, the individual bug should be reopened.
